Commerce media has reached the exciting stage of industry evolution where everyone agrees it’s important and then starts arguing about what it actually is. Collin Colburn of IAB tells Beet.TV Editorial Director Lisa Granatstein at the IAB Podcast Upfront why competing definitions can coexist, while fragmentation remains the considerably less philosophical problem that needs fixing. Creator advertising has plenty of creativity. What it apparently needs now is better plumbing. James Douglas of IAB tells Beet.TV at the IAB PlayFronts why standardizing how creator media is measured, compared and bought could help turn a $44 billion market into something considerably bigger. The days of controlling every brand interaction are over. And that might be a good thing. That was one of my favorite takeaways from my conversation with Radhika Duggal of Major League Soccer for episode 9 of IAB Center Seat. Radhika shared a smart perspective on how fandom is changing. Fans are connecting with brands everywhere, from TikTok and Discord to retail and beyond. And most of those interactions aren't happening on channels the brand owns. Her advice? Set the direction, give Creators and partners a clear understanding of your brand, and then get comfortable letting go. Sometimes the best brand moments are the ones you didn't script. And her take on leadership followed a similar philosophy: set clear goals, get everyone aligned, and then get out of your team's way. At the end of each conversation, I ask who they'd like to hear from in the center seat. Radhika's pick: Aniko Nakazawa DeLaney, former CMO of BNY Mellon and now a Lecturer of Marketing. Episode 9 is live. Take a look! #IABCenterSeat #CMO #Fandom #SportsMarketing #BrandStrategy
