  • We extend our sincere gratitude to Goodwin Procter LLP for continuing its longstanding tradition of hosting the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association’s Fall Student Reception. This year we enhanced the program by including an opportunity for students to hear directly from attorneys in our membership. Thank you to all the students who showed up! We are excited to welcome you to the Massachusetts legal community. To the attorneys and legal professionals who have joined us at the tables, Commissioner Nakisha Skinner, Travis Salters, and Supreme Court Justice Clerk Allison S. Cartwright , MBLA Past President and founder James S. Dilday, Esq. and Attorney Arianne Waldron, thank you for making yourselves available, for engaging in these conversations, and for demonstrating through your presence that our legal community is invested in the success of its future members.

On October 8, 2026, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, hosted our Annual Student Reception and the official kickoff of our Student Mentoring Program! We brought together two important parts of the MBLA’s commitment to the next generation of attorneys: a longstanding tradition of welcoming our law students into the legal community and the revitalization of a mentoring program designed to help them navigate that community and ultimately thrive within it. For decades, Black attorneys and others have been significantly underrepresented in the profession. And despite years of effort to expand access and opportunity, we have not made nearly enough progress. Now, we find ourselves confronting a new challenge. Across the country, efforts to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are threatening many of the pathways that were created to address that historic exclusion. We must ask ourselves: What happens to the next generation of Black attorneys when those pathways begin to disappear? The MBLA will answer that question because we believe our responsibility is not simply to celebrate those who have already succeeded. It is to ensure that we are creating opportunities for those who will come after us. We extend our sincere gratitude to Goodwin Procter LLP for continuing its longstanding tradition of hosting this program for the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association. A very special thank-you to Arianne Waldron Waldron, our Mentoring Program Director, thank you for accepting the responsibility of helping us bring this important program back to life. Thank you to Stacy C. Daniel, Esq., and Dominique Dembo, Esq., our Student Mentoring Program Co-Chairs. I would also like to recognize and thank Attorney James Dilday, our Keynote speaker, past president and one of the founders of the MBLA. To the attorneys and legal professionals who have joined us at the tables, Commissioner Nikisha Skinner, Travis Salters, and Supreme Court Justice Clerk Allison S. Cartwright, thank you for making yourselves available, for engaging in these conversations, and for demonstrating through your presence that our legal community is invested in the success of its future members. To our mentors thank you for volunteering.
