In the six months Modal has been operational, we've stayed relatively quiet while we focused on building Eurosky. Today we launched https://mu.social/, a new microblogging service built on the AT Protocol. This moves us closer to having a fully independent European atproto stack. We're starting with a form factor based on Bluesky, but we're adding other features, and will be iterating as we go. We think of mu as an opportunity to test ideas for better social and informational experiences. With that, here's an update from Modal on our recent work, and coming plans. https://lnkd.in/eQiGsz5Y

We’re excited to introduce Modal Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to making open social tech viable at scale. At Modal, we believe that social media is critical infrastructure for publics, and it needs to work for people, not exploit and mislead them. The foundation fulfills the Free Our Feeds campaign commitment to launch a public interest tech foundation. We’re interested in all approaches that can offer ways to configure our information systems to better serve people. We’re focused on open tech infrastructure and digital public goods. Our work will connect experts, strategists, builders and communities to create a human-centered internet. The foundation will oversee Free Our Feeds, Eurosky and other initiatives to come.
