About us
ParentChild+ uses education to break the cycle of poverty for under-resourced families with young children. Through an international network of program sites, ParentChild+ works one-on-one with families and with family child care providers to ensure children achieve their greatest potential in school and in life. Our dual models enable the Program to blanket underserved communities with school readiness supports and reach families with children four and under who would otherwise not be ready for school. Highly trained early learning specialists engage families and FCC providers by modeling reading, conversation, and play activities. Through one-on-one visits to families and visits to providers and children in home-based care settings, ParentChild+ builds opportunities for the most vulnerable children and families. Since 1965, ParentChild+ has been assisting underserved communities in replicating and expanding these proven models, setting children on the road to school and life success and strengthening families, providers and communities. Children learn and grow through everyday interactions with trusted caregivers. Research from Harvard University’s Center on the Developing Child shows that healthy brain development is grounded in responsive relationships with loving caregivers — including those formed with family, friend, and neighbor (FFN) caregivers. Their studies also find that daily back-and-forth interactions contribute more to young children’s well-being than many of the structured activities traditionally emphasized in child care settings. Parents frequently turn to FFN caregivers for guidance and support on child development, discipline, nutrition, and other aspects of raising young children. They describe working together to navigate challenges such as behavior concerns, toilet training, developmental delays, feeding issues, and developmental milestones — with some even describing providers as “like parents” who offer both practical advice and emotional support. In these close, trusted relationships, learning happens naturally. FFN caregivers support development through everyday experiences like story time, arts and crafts, cooking together, practicing letters and numbers, attending community events, and exploring the world around them. These moments may seem simple, but they are powerful building blocks for language development, confidence, connection, and learning. Children thrive when caregiving is rooted in warm, responsive relationships. Find Dr. Junlei Li’s Simple Interactions framework here: https://lnkd.in/dgpzre2n

We are so grateful for supporters like Nia Imani Fields, Ed.D. and GreenLight Fund in Baltimore and beyond! Our Early Learning Specialists are the best in the biz when it comes to creating the everyday magic of home visiting ✨ #ParentChildPlus #HomeVisitingWorks #EarlyChildhood
This afternoon, I spent some time with the ParentChild+ Baltimore team! I asked them a single question that led to endless stories of heart, passion and perseverance. The question was: ❓️ What are you most proud of today, in your ParentChild+ work? 📖 We heard stories of about a child who was once non-verbal and is now singing songs. 📖 Parents who are learning new tools to use while being inspired by stories in their native language. 📖 Parents who are learning how to advocate for their children when being bilingual can be misdiagnosed for developmental speech delay. 📖 A child who is beginning to see her beauty because the Early Learning Specialist reminded her. Some of these stories were intended outcomes of ParentChild + but many were not. These ripple effect stories happen when trust is built, when families feel seen, and when teams are hired from the communities they serve. ParentChild+ is not only preparing children for school, they are also bringing communities together! GreenLight Fund Baltimore is honored to continue to support the great work of ParentChild+ and their Catholic Charities of Baltimore partner. 📚 Early literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning, academic success, and opportunity. ParentChild+ was proud to join Literacy in Community (LINC), Committee for Hispanic Children & Families (CHCF), Reach Out and Read of Greater New York, Brooklyn Public Library, PlayReadVIP, and fellow City’s First Readers partners at a rally on the steps of New York City Hall advocating for an expansion to $10 million in New York City's budget for early literacy initiatives. Representing ParentChild+, New York State Director Andre Eaton spoke alongside community leaders, educators, healthcare professionals, and advocates about the importance of investing in children and families from the earliest years. As one speaker noted, learning to read begins at birth. Ensuring families have access to books, literacy-rich experiences, and trusted community supports is an investment in stronger communities, healthier outcomes, and brighter futures for children across New York City. Thank you to our partners and elected officials who continue to champion early literacy for all. 📢📢 Calling all Northern Californians with a loading dock connection! Whitney Evans Fuston needs your help for ParentChild+ in California to make some magic happen! 📚✨ #ParentChildPlus
ParentChild+ California has an exciting opportunity to secure a donation of 23 PALLETS of books and toys to share with our families and community. Believe it or not, they won't deliver 23 pallets to my front lawn, so I am looking for a loading dock we can borrow. If you have access to a loading dock in Northern California and can help, please reach out to me. I'd be thrilled to also take volunteers while we are at it. A great opportunity for a company 1x volunteer event!

Home visiting is a relationship-based service delivery approach that partners trained professionals with caregivers, including parents and home-based child care providers, to support young children’s development and school readiness. Through regular, voluntary visits in the home or a setting of the caregiver’s choice, home visitors coach positive interactions, share resources, and build on the strengths of each caregiver to promote learning, confidence, and connection. To learn more about home visiting nationally, check out National Home Visiting Resource Center (NHVRC). And, stay tuned to learn more about what makes ParentChild+'s models unique! #ParentChildPlus #HomeVisitingWorks #FamilySupport

As we close out #NationalHomeVisitingWeek, we extend our deepest gratitude to you for following along, and to the Home Visitors and Early Learning Specialists whose work makes a lasting difference for children and families. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to strengthening early relationships are foundational to the impact we see across communities. While this week offers an important moment of recognition, it only begins to reflect the scope of their contributions. We look forward to continuing this conversation with you. Throughout May, we’ll be sharing more about the critical role of Home Visiting and the professionals who lead this work forward. “Home Visitors are catalysts for growth.” They are highly skilled professionals with deep expertise in early learning, caregiving, and family support. They are deeply rooted in the communities they serve. At ParentChild+, more than 90% of home visitors share the same home language as the families they partner with, and the vast majority live in those same communities. This proximity matters. It builds trust, strengthens relationships, and ensures support is culturally and linguistically responsive. During National Home Visiting Week, we recognize home visitors as essential members of the early childhood workforce. The are a critical investment in family well-being, school readiness, and long-term outcomes for children. As we celebrate their impact, we also call for continued investment in home visiting programs and the professionals who make this work possible. Now that you've heard from Stephen Cockrell, how would you complete the sentence: Home Visitors are…?
