Building Capacity. Creating Community.
About us
PSS is a multi-service non-profit 501(c)(3) agency whose mission is to strengthen the capacity of older New Yorkers, their families, and communities to thrive. Founded in 1962, PSS has close to 120 dedicated staff and more than 200 committed volunteers and interns serving all five boroughs. The organization operates 10 community centers for older adults offering meals, daily activities and socialization, technology and computer skills instruction, healthy living programs and onsite social workers. PSS operates two Senior Residences – one in Corona, Queens and the other in the Bronx. PSS Circle of Care supports families and friends caring for someone who is frail, chronically ill or has memory loss with caregiver and kinship family support programs. PSS Life! University is a lifelong learning center offering a program of virtual, in-person and hybrid classes designed to inspire and equip people to navigate the transitions that come with aging. NY Connects Brooklyn ties older adults and disabled individuals of any age to resources in Kings County. PSS Case Management serves and advocates for more than 1,000 homebound older adults in Bronx Community Districts 9, 10, and 11. Clients are provided with connection to home health-aide services, home-delivered meals, and a wide range of benefits and entitlements.

Together with our community of volunteers and partners, PSS helped create powerful opportunities this year for older New Yorkers to grow and thrive. We're proud to share our Annual Highlights Report, filled with real numbers from this year — and behind every number is a real person whose life is better because you and this community cared. Meet them. https://lnkd.in/gvu8FqXc

Introducing The Bridge! Yesterday, PSS joined forces with our friends at Bridge Social to unveil The Bridge, our new AI-powered texting service designed to make it easier for older adults and other PSS clients to connect with the information, programs and support they need. From checking the day’s lunch menu at an Older Adult Center to signing up for a group trip or scheduling an appointment with a social worker, The Bridge puts PSS services right at our clients’ fingertips—while helping our staff spend more time focused on the people who need their personal support. We were thrilled to share this exciting new tool with so many partners and friends, including AARP New York, Rutgers University, the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA), NYC Department for the Aging, and many others who joined us to see The Bridge in action, hear from PSS staff, and try it out for themselves. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us and to everyone who helped make The Bridge possible. We’re excited to see where this new way of connecting takes us! #PSS #TheBridge #Aging #AI #AgeTech #OlderAdults #Innovation #TechnologyForGood #NYC

A little island getaway, #PSS style! 🌿⛴️💚 Today, members of #PSSKingTowersCenter and #PSSHighbridgeCenter joined PSS Life! University for a beautiful getaway to #GovernorsIsland. From the ferry ride and waterfront views to exploring the island, enjoying the scenery, and spending time together, it was an afternoon well spent. Because learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom. #PSSLifeUniversity is about continuing to learn, explore, connect, and experience something new at every age. Sometimes, that comes with fresh air, good company, a ferry ride, and a beautiful view of the NYC skyline. 🗽✨ Thank you to our members for coming along for the adventure!

💚 It’s more than a calendar of activities. It’s community. #PSS Older Adult Centers create opportunities for New Yorkers ages 60+ to connect with others, explore their interests, stay active, and feel supported. But don’t just take our word for it. #PSSMemberVoices: In Their Own Words puts the spotlight on the people who experience our centers firsthand.
