Pharmaceutical manufacturers are making major investments to bring new production capacity online in North America. The most successful projects bring process, utilities, manufacturing, quality, and construction teams together around a shared vision long before startup. When a pharmaceutical facility outgrows its high-purity water system, the engineering is often the easy part. Keeping production running through installation, qualification, and startup is where things get complicated. Dominic Pion, James Tarter, and Josh Morton share how parallel operation, carefully timed cutovers, and early CQV planning can reduce disruption. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, CQV can determine how quickly a new facility moves from construction to production. James Tarter, Josh Morton, and Tulsa Scott explain why early, risk-based planning and continuous testing help protect the schedule, compliance, and a confident startup. Efficiency alone won’t shrink the energy demand that AI workloads are creating, so the question for data center operators becomes how much value they get per unit of energy. At the 𝟳×𝟮𝟰 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 Fall 2026 Conference in San Antonio on October 28, Nathan Kamphuis, Ph.D., will present “𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘌𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘌𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴: 𝘈𝘯 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘹𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯” with Kushal Dagli from Microsoft. They will cover how operators can adopt new technology at scale while managing growing electrical loads and grid constraints. Data center leaders will leave with a framework for evaluating energy strategies and making investment decisions as availability, reliability, and growth compete for priority. What if you could watch paleontologists investigate a dinosaur fossil in real time? At the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit brings scientific discovery out from behind closed doors and into public view. Working with HH Architecture and Lynch Mykins, Salas O’Brien helped create a space that functions as both a working research laboratory and a museum experience. Glass walls give visitors an unobstructed view of the lab, while the experience extends to the sidewalk, where passersby can look in from outside. Behind that visibility is highly specialized engineering. Our team designed ventilation and exhaust systems to support laboratory work, quiet HVAC systems that wouldn’t disrupt surrounding museum spaces, and solutions that reused existing infrastructure where practical to limit cost and disruption. It’s a great example of how thoughtful engineering can support both serious research and public engagement. Food and beverage manufacturers are looking to robotics for more than labor availability. The opportunity is to rethink how work moves through the plant: using automation for repetitive, physically demanding, or difficult-to-staff tasks while creating more capacity for people to focus on the work that requires judgment, troubleshooting, and technical skill. Getting there takes more than selecting the right robot. In his latest article, Salas O’Brien’s John Glenski explores the engineering questions that shape a successful robotics strategy, including process fit, line integration, sanitation, controls, safety, changeovers, maintenance, and the realities of the existing facility. Done well, robotics can strengthen both production performance and the workforce supporting it. Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gX3srziB #EngineeredForImpact

Which data center sustainability investments are worth making first? That’s what our team of experts will break down at the Greenbuild International Conference + Expo in New York on October 23. In the panel “The Data Center Boom Meets Sustainability: Hard Tradeoffs, Real Solutions,” Nathan Kamphuis, Ph.D., 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀, Fred Miller, and Lauren Wallace will cover where targeted investments improve performance and resilience, and how permitting and community input shape site feasibility. Owners and developers will leave with a framework for deciding which investments deliver the most value for their projects and communities.
