October is Filipino American History Month! Did you know that nearly 290,000 Filipino immigrants and Filipino Americans call the San Francisco Bay Area home? Today's Filipino community is vibrant and growing, but previous generations endured significant struggles to establish a foothold. As many Filipino people and families arrived in the Bay Area in the 1970s, they faced discrimination, isolation, and barriers to housing, employment, and civic life. SFF grantee Filipino Advocates for Justice was created to help fill the gaps. Today, their team connects people with legal partners who help families with the immigration process, and connects people with healthcare and stable housing. SFF is proud to support Filipino Advocates for Justice in their mission to serve Filipino families across the Bay Area. Learn more about their work: https://lnkd.in/eW5fRArZ

San Francisco Foundation's Latine Kitchen Cabinet started as an advisory body to advise its work with the Latine community. The impact of these efforts, combined with shared challenges and aspirations, led to a broader commitment: the Bay Area Latine Regional Leadership Table. It recognizes that no single organization, community, or institution can achieve lasting change alone. ✨ Join us to get an overview of what's been learned, what's next, and why philanthropic investment in this regional approach— not just individual grantees—is necessary to achieve lasting impact. ↪️ Register: https://lnkd.in/gyzBJnJq

As the ancestral homeland of the Ohlone people, the Bay Area has long been home to Indigenous communities whose cultures, traditions, and connections to the land continue today. This Indigenous Peoples' Day, SFF is highlighting the local, Native-led organizations like Friendship House Association of American Indians (Friendship House SF) that serve the Bay Area’s Indigenous communities. Friendship House SF creates spaces for healing, reconnecting with culture, and building community right here in San Francisco. SFF proudly supported the Village SF Wellness Center, which broke ground this year. Once open, the center will provide a Native-led model of holistic healing to more than 7,000 community members each year. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eZcWeAFB.

This Latinx Heritage Month, SFF is highlighting Sergio Garcia and Amelia Gonzalez’s dedication to racial justice and economic opportunity. Through the Garcia Gonzalez Fund, Sergio, Amelia, and their daughters support Bay Area nonprofits led by communities of color that advance economic inclusion, racial justice, and equity in the arts and culture. As East Bay residents, they are especially committed to community-rooted organizations, including Fruitvale-based Centro Legal de la Raza and The Unity Council. For more than 23 years, Rising Juntos has worked alongside Black, Brown, and low-income residents across Contra Costa County to build leadership, connect families to resources, and take action on issues affecting their communities. As a Stand Together Bay Area Fund recipient, Rising Juntos builds trusted relationships with residents through its network of more than 200 volunteers. By showing up in parks, schools, churches, and neighborhoods, the organization helps immigrant families who are experiencing tremendous fear by connecting them to support, accurate information, and resources. For one mother, that support helped her move from staying home out of fear to advocating alongside her neighbors for policy change. Rising Juntos helps residents find strength in community and create change alongside their neighbors. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5wvT3mB
