Wendi Safstrom – President, SHRM Foundation, captures something we at SHRM deeply believe: The future of work isn't just about what's changing. It's about what we choose to build together.   Yesterday's 2026 Tharseo Summit powered by SHRM Foundation brought that belief to life in Washington, D.C. From AI and human potential to cultures of care, every conversation reinforced what HR leaders know firsthand: People belong at the center of progress.   Bold ideas only matter when they become action. Through the Foundation, SHRM turns that conviction into impact, making work, workers, and the workplace better.   #SHRM #TharseoSummit #SHRMFoundation #FutureOfWork

So proud of my team for bringing the 2026 Tharseo Summit powered by SHRM Foundation to life! Tharseo means having the courage and confidence to turn bold ideas into meaningful action. This year, our team took the bold step in expanding this special brand beyond a single gathering into a series of events designed to explore one important question: How can workers, workplaces, and communities thrive together? Those conversations culminated in an inspiring day of ideas and collaboration at yesterday's Tharseo Summit in Washington, D.C. From the role of AI in unlocking human potential to the future of careers and the importance of cultures of care, the conversations reinforced the need to put people at the center of progress. I’m incredibly grateful to our partners, speakers, sponsors, and participants who made this gathering of bold ideas, fresh perspectives, and cross-sector collaboration possible. The future of work isn’t just about what’s changing. It’s about what we choose to create together. #SHRM #TharseoSummit #SHRMFoundation #FutureOfWork

The jobs report is a first draft — not a strategy. Jessica Kriegel breaks down why the headline number isn't enough, and what HR leaders should be tracking instead. The organizations that win are the ones who read past the noise. Get the full picture in the SHRM Work Signal newsletter: https://shrm.co/52ip5e7s #HRLeadership #WorkforceStrategy #JobsReport #SHRMWorkSignal

The jobs report won't tell leaders what they need to know. It tells you something real about demand and wages and the cost of capital. It just can't finish the analysis leaders actually need. When MillerCoors closed its brewery in Eden, North Carolina, the numbers said 500 jobs were gone and it looked like a loss. Purina saw a 1.3-million-square-foot facility and a bunch of talent that needed a job. So they spent $450 million on it, and the advantage went to them. It goes to whoever can read past the headline. I get into what this report can't tell you, and where the real answer lives, in today's SHRM Work Signal newsletter. Read it to find out: - Why the number everyone reacts to is a first draft, and how often it actually reverses. - Why 68% of HR leaders can't fill roles in a market everyone calls cooling. - The four numbers inside your own company that tell you more than the headline ever will. Resilience isn't a defensive reaction — it's an offensive business strategy. And the organizations that treat it that way are outperforming their peers by two to three times.   SHRM President and CEO, Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, and Christopher Carey, CEO of Calm Health, are asking the hard question: if mental health conversations have never been more open, why are stress and burnout still climbing?    In this conversation, they'll unpack what it takes to stop managing well-being reactively and start designing it into how your organization operates, from leadership culture and decision-making to the role AI plays in shaping the employee experience.    📅 October 20, 2026 | 11:00 AM ET   Part of SHRM's Healthy Workplaces Virtual Retreat | 1 PDC available   Register today and select this session when you sign up: https://lnkd.in/ePkWMM_q  #HR #Resilience #WorkplaceWellbeing

In the Torres vs. SHRM trial, we fundamentally disagree with the jury's verdict and will evaluate all reasonable appellate options. We stand by our team and the process followed in providing reasonable and responsible accommodations to Ms. Torres. While Ms. Torres requested a service dog, by her own admission she is frequently without the dog, and the dog was never prescribed by a physician. SHRM followed proper protocol to consider the best options for the whole of our staff and offered reasonable alternative accommodations. Ms. Torres ultimately was the one who stopped participating in the interactive process. Accommodation is meant to be a dialogue. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires cooperation from both sides. An applicant's preference for a specific accommodation does not strip an employer of its right to establish reasonable operational boundaries or to propose alternative, effective solutions. SHRM remains fully committed to fair, respectful, and legally compliant accommodation processes for every employee and applicant, and we will continue to defend that commitment as we evaluate all appellate options.
