  • Scaling a medical device takes more than increasing production.  Moving from development to commercial manufacturing brings new challenges. Design decisions, supply chain readiness, quality requirements, and production efficiency all play a role in getting a device to market successfully.  How early should manufacturers be thinking about scale?  At the American Medical Device Summit, October 26–27 in Schaumburg, Illinois, the SMC team looks forward to connecting with MedTech leaders and discussing the challenges and opportunities shaping medical device manufacturing.  From design for manufacturability to global supply chain management and quality planning, we're ready to share ideas and explore what it takes to build a successful path to commercialization.  Attending the summit? Let's connect.  See where else you can meet our team: https://hubs.la/Q04B2XpD0  #MedTech #MedicalDeviceManufacturing #AmericanMedicalDeviceSummit #ContractManufacturing

  • As biologics become more complex, drug delivery needs to keep pace.  High-viscosity formulations and larger injection volumes present new challenges for device developers. How can autoinjector technology evolve to meet these demands while maintaining usability and reliability?  In the latest issue of ONdrugDelivery, SMC's Asmita Khanolkar, Marta Vilaplana, Susie White and Pete Evans explore these challenges through the development of the Bios autoinjector platform.  Their article examines how the platform addresses demanding formulations while incorporating ISO-standard plunger stoppers and staked-needle syringes.  What does the next generation of injectable therapies demand from delivery devices?  Read the full article in Issue #191 of ONdrugDelivery, Prefilled Syringes & Injection Devices:  https://hubs.la/Q04B2HFj0

  • Day 2 at PDA Palm Springs — and there’s still time to go deeper with the SMC team. If you're developing a drug delivery platform, stop by Booth #620 to discuss the manufacturing, assembly, labeling and packaging challenges that can emerge as programs move from development toward commercialization. And if you missed yesterday’s poster session, you have another opportunity today. Join Pete Evans and Marta Vilaplana from 12:15–1:15 PM in the Exhibit Hall for: “The Application of Mathematical Modelling to Develop and Expand a High-Viscosity, Large-Volume Autoinjector Platform.” The presentation explores how modelling can help engineers evaluate device requirements earlier, de-risk modifications to established platforms and support the transition to combination products. It also includes a case study showing how SMC applied modelling to expand the Bios platform from 2.25 mL to as much as 5.5 mL. Booth #620 Poster Session: 12:15–1:15 PM Have a challenge you’re trying to solve in your own drug delivery program? Bring it to the SMC team today. #PDAUniverse #DrugDelivery #Autoinjectors #CombinationProducts #MedicalDeviceManufacturing #SMCLtd
