Young people who have experienced the mental health care system firsthand have important perspectives on how it can be improved. Meet Sydney Schwartz, a Strong Minds Youth Advocacy Council member from Chester County. Through her own experiences and those of her peers, Sydney understands why young people's voices must be part of conversations about mental health policy and access to care. Sydney is one of 24 youth leaders helping Strong Minds, Bright Futures shape priorities and advocate for better mental health support across Pennsylvania. Get to know Sydney and the change she wants to see. #StrongMindsPA #YouthAdvocacy #YouthMentalHealth #MentalHealthAccess

Our partners at the Teen Mental Health Coalition have released Teen Safe Spaces fact sheets with practical guidance for schools, policymakers, and parents and caregivers on helping create those spaces for young people. Find the fact sheet for your audience, download it, share it, and put it to use: https://lnkd.in/e5Q-_MCF #PATeenMentalHealthCoalition #TeenSafeSpaces #TeenMentalHealth #SupportBeforeCrisis

Access to support is not only about whether someone is available. It is also about trust. Jacob’s story shows why young people need trained, consistent adults who have the time and relationships to help them open up when they are ready. Young people need support they can trust. World Mental Health Day is tomorrow! As Mental Illness Awareness Week comes to a close, it's an important reminder that mental wellbeing deserves our attention every day. Supporting mental health starts with creating environments where people feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether at work, at home, or in our communities, small actions can help foster resilience, connection, and belonging. Tomorrow, we will join others around the world in recognizing the importance of mental health and access to trusted resources and support. Take a moment today to prioritize your own wellbeing. 💚

Awareness must be matched by access. Vanessa’s message points to a basic challenge: young people need trained, trusted professionals available when and where they need support. During Mental Illness Awareness Week, Strong Minds, Bright Futures is highlighting the need to strengthen Pennsylvania’s children’s mental health workforce and expand access before crisis. Mental Illness Awareness Week is an opportunity to move beyond awareness and focus on what makes support possible. When young people ask for help, access depends on whether trusted adults, providers, schools, community organizations, and children’s doctors have the capacity to respond. That is why workforce expansion is not separate from access. Workforce is access. Awareness should lead somewhere. #StrongMindsPA #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthWorkforce #YouthMentalHealth #MentalHealthAccess

Pennsylvania lawmakers are again considering statewide limits on student phone use during the school day. Creating healthier digital environments can be part of supporting student wellbeing. But reducing phone access is not the same as expanding mental health access. Students also need trusted adults, adequate school and community capacity, and clear pathways to support when they need it. Safer environments matter. So does making sure asking for help leads somewhere. Read the PennLive story: https://lnkd.in/ezJbh5ia #StrongMindsPA #YouthMentalHealth #MentalHealthAccess #SchoolMentalHealth

Good policy starts with listening to the people closest to the work. Last week, Pennsylvania’s Mental Health Planning Council brought together statewide partners to advance the Call for Change and recommendations from the Governor’s Behavioral Health Action Plan. At least 51% of the council identifies with lived experience in some way — helping ensure that policy discussions remain grounded in the realities facing individuals, families, and communities across Pennsylvania. We were also glad to have Sydney Adamsky, a member of the Strong Minds Youth Advocacy Council, participate and bring an important youth perspective to the discussion. #StrongMindsPA #MentalHealthAccess #LivedExperience #BehavioralHealth

Mental health is health. That means making sure support is actually available when children and families need it — through prevention, a strong workforce, schools, children’s doctors, and community-based support. On #ChildHealthDay, that is the work ahead: support earlier and make sure asking for help leads somewhere. #StrongMindsPA #ChildMentalHealth #MentalHealthAccess
Healthy children build a healthier future. This Child Health Day, let’s continue working together to support the physical and mental health of children through prevention, early intervention, and strong community support. #ChildHealthDay #ChildMentalHealth #mentalhealth
