ACCS is an educational and training system of 24 colleges, the ATN & Innovation Center, serving Alabama statewide.

About us

Alabama’s community and technical colleges were merged into one system May 3, 1963, when legislators laid the groundwork for a unified system of institutions to focus on accessible training in “arts and sciences and in useful skills and trades” for current and future labor needs. Sixty years have passed, but that important cause remains the singular purpose of the Alabama Community College System (ACCS). With 24 community and technical colleges in more than 130 locations and an economic impact of $6.6 billion, the ACCS is Alabama's gateway to first-class, affordable education and technical training to compete in a constantly evolving workforce. More than 155,000 Alabamians benefit from the various certification, credential, dual enrollment and degree programs the ACCS offers alongside leading industry partners. The System includes the Alabama Training Network, which provides extensive training and service offerings directly to business and industry, and the ACCS Innovation Center, which provides rapid skills training through its Skills for Success program. The ACCS is governed by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.

October is Manufacturing Month, and ATN wants to celebrate the people who make Alabama! Manufacturing is more than an industry in Alabama. It's the people, innovation, and hard work that keep our communities thriving and our economy moving forward. ATN was honored to join Governor Kay Ivey in recognizing October 1, 2026, as Manufacturing Day in Alabama, highlighting the tremendous impact manufacturing has on our state's economy and workforce. At ATN, we're proud to work alongside Alabama manufacturers every day, helping them develop their people, strengthen operations, improve safety, and prepare for what's next. To Alabama's manufacturers and the people behind them, this month is for YOU! Here's to celebrating the people and industries that make Alabama stronger and continuing to build a brighter future for manufacturing across our state! #OctoberisManufacturingMonth #AlabamaManufacturing #AlabamaTrainingNetwork #WorkforceDevelopment

  • Today is National World Food Day, promoting global awareness and against hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, approximately 3.8 million college students faced food insecurities in 2020. For those reasons, food pantries or food banks continue to increase across Alabama Community College System (ACCS) institutions. The colleges partner with local food banks, finding solutions to day-to-day insecurities. Finding solutions. That’s what the ACCS does. • Daisha & Dalton Hamby continue their journey on The Amazing Race tonight on CBS at 8:30. Did you know? Prior to meeting as students at Jacksonville State, Daisha (formerly Wilks) Hamby graduated from Northeast Alabama Community College and Dalton Hamby from Gadsden State Community College. Daisha Hamby: "Northeast Alabama Community College (NACC) will always hold a special place in my heart. As someone from the area, being able to stay close to home a little longer while saving money was such a blessing. NACC gave me so much more than that. It was also where I had my very first job as a tutor, and I loved being able to help other students learn and reach their goals. The staff genuinely cared about their students, and I always felt like I had people in my corner who wanted to see me succeed. I felt prepared and ready for that next step. NACC gave me a strong academic foundation, but it also helped build the confidence and skills I needed for the real world. I’m so thankful I started my journey there. The education is top-notch. NACC will always be a part of my story." Dalton Hamby, who also served as an ACCS social media ambassador: "Gadsden State Community College was such an important part of my journey. As a tutor and ambassador, I loved connecting with people from all walks of life who were working hard to further their education. I enjoyed hearing their stories and sharing them with others, never realizing how much those experiences were preparing me for my future career in videography and storytelling. Today, I get to make a living telling people’s stories, and I’m still friends with some of the people I met at Gadsden State! I’m so thankful for the foundation Gadsden State gave me and the relationships I built along the way." See less

  • For Alabamians living with traumatic brain injury, knowing where to turn can be the first step toward a better life. A partnership between the ACCS and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS) is making that step easier. Two Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Centers of Alabama were debuted to the public last month, both on Alabama Community College campuses. The first center was introduced during an open house event at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony at Calhoun Community College's Research Park campus in Huntsville one week later. The additions bring Alabama’s network of TBI centers to five locations statewide.

  • James Spann was also the keynote speaker recently at the Alabama Community College System Public Relations Association (ACCSPRA) fall conference, presenting to communications and marketing professionals across the system!

👏👏👏 We were honored to welcome James Spann to the ACCS Innovation Center, the IC, today! James got a firsthand look at how Skills for Success meets people where they are, with self-paced online theory and lessons built around repetition, gamification, and video. He also tried two of our career exploration simulators, the place where middle and high school students explore career fields before they choose a training path. Along the way, we talked about what it takes to make training accessible: reaching every learning style, bridging socioeconomic gaps, and being right there in every community through our Alabama community colleges. James understands the importance of reaching Alabamians statewide with cost-free options for workforce training, and he's as excited as we are about the array of industries the IC serves! Thank you, James, for spending the day with us! We can't wait to have you step into a hands-on lab during your next IC visit! #ACCS #ACCSInnovationCenter #SkillsForSuccess

  • As we recognize National Manufacturing Day, the ACCS is beaming from the AI Skills for Manufacturing Training Suite partnership we announced with The Manufacturing Institute - MI this week! The initiative will expand AI skills training across Alabama’s community colleges, allowing active Alabama manufacturers to upskill their existing frontline workers, while equipping new workers with immediate digital fluency. It also builds upon the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program, which features 12 active chapters across Alabama's community colleges, providing students with earn-and-learn apprenticeship opportunities in manufacturing careers.
