ICYMI--Members of the 2nd Range Operations Squadron (2 ROPS) from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, visited Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, to share operating procedures and streamline coast-to-coast mission execution. Although the mission is the same between the two coasts, tactical execution differs. Visits like these provide teams the opportunity to become familiar with each other while sharing best practices to ensure that the U.S. launch mission is second to none.

As strategic competitors increasingly view space as a warfighting domain, adversarial nations are seeking to dominate, deceive, disrupt, deny, degrade, and destroy U.S. access to space and its space assets. China is designated as the pacing threat due to its rapid increase in launches and satellites on orbit, while Russia represents an acute threat that researches and deploys counter-space systems to exploit U.S. military dependence on space. In partnership with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Space Force has transferred a third geostationary weather satellite to Combat Forces Command’s Mission Delta 2. Arriving on station Oct. 14, 2026, the mission repurposes NOAA’s Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-14), used to collect cloud imagery and perform environmental reconnaissance, to the Electro-optical Infrared Weather System-Geostationary mission as EWS-G3 to perform its mission over the Indian Ocean. The Space Force is launching Guardian Spark, a new annual outreach program that connects Guardians with students in grades 3–12 to share the mission, people and opportunities of the nation’s newest military service. Designed to reach classrooms nationwide — including Department of War Education Activity schools overseas — the program will help students better understand the critical role Space Force Guardians play in protecting U.S. interests in the space domain.
