YouthBuild Boston's Designery students are hard at work on their architecture desings!
Our after-school Designery program started last week! This program invites high-school students to explore the fundamentals of architecture with the help of volunteers and our lead designers. We can't wait to see what these students design! #Designery #WorkforceDevelopment #BostonNonprofit
🏡 In St. Joseph, Missouri, #YouthBuild participants just completed a beautiful four-bedroom home renovation—and celebrated with a house blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony! Young people ages 17 to 24 gained hands-on construction training, earned industry-recognized credentials, and developed leadership skills while transforming an abandoned house into a home full of possibility. "We do teach them and we give them a solid skill set on how to use a tool and not hurt themselves," shared Ben Girard, YouthBuild construction supervisor at St. Joseph Youth Alliance. This project is a powerful example of what happens when communities come together—Youth Alliance, the city of St. Joseph, local contractors, community partners, and the Housing Improvement Initiative all collaborated to make this transformation possible. Thank you to everyone who supported these young leaders as they built brighter futures for themselves and their community! 💙 #BuildingBrighterFuturesTogether #YouthBuildMovement

🎤 YouthBuild Global President and CEO John Valverde recently spoke on a panel at the National Youth Employment Coalition's D.C. Summit in Washington, D.C., alongside leaders from across the youth workforce field. The conversation centered on what it takes to build pathways that truly lead somewhere—programs that connect young people to education, skills training, and family-sustaining careers. John shared how the #YouthBuild model brings together love, wraparound support, and hands-on training as young people complete their education, earn industry-recognized credentials, and step into meaningful work. "Young people come to YouthBuild ready to work hard for their futures," John said. "What makes the difference is meeting them with care, the right support and the modern training that connects to real careers." Thank you to NYEC for creating space for practitioners, youth leaders, and policymakers to come together and champion young people! #BuildingBrighterFuturesTogether #YouthBuildMovement

I'm excited to share that I'll be presenting at the 27th Annual National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) Youth Symposium, November 16-18, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas! Career readiness isn't something we introduce as participants prepare to exit a program. It's a developmental process that begins on day one. During my session, "Career Readiness Begins on Day One", we'll explore how workforce development programs can intentionally integrate career readiness throughout the participant experience, connecting Positive Youth Development, skill building, career exploration, and real-world experiences to help young people prepare for their futures. I'm looking forward to sharing some of what we're learning at YouthBuild Global, exchanging ideas with fellow workforce professionals, and exploring practical strategies we can bring back to our programs. This year's theme is Mission: Possible, and I'm excited to be part of the conversation! Join us in San Antonio! Shoutout to Aaliayah and La’Nell, who have built their own bright futures and are now on staff at YouthBuild Lake County, supporting young people to realize their dreams.
🌟 Meet two more of our YBLC Alumni Staff, Aaliayah and La’Nell! A little over a week ago, we introduced you to Jose, one of our newest team members and a proud YouthBuild Lake County alum. But did you know we have two other YouthBuild alumni who are part of our staff today? Meet Aaliayah and La’Nell! 💙🧡 Aaliayah graduated from YouthBuild Lake County in 2015, while La’Nell graduated in 2018. Today, both are giving back to the very program that helped shape their own journeys, supporting and inspiring the next generation of YouthBuild participants. Having experienced firsthand the skills, confidence, and support that YouthBuild provides, they now have the opportunity to make that same impact on others. For Aaliayah, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is helping participants overcome barriers and watching them grow from their first day of Mental Toughness through graduation and employment. For La’Nell, it's about speaking life into participants, encouraging them to remain persistent, and helping them recognize their potential. Their journeys are a powerful reminder that the impact of YouthBuild extends far beyond graduation. We're incredibly proud to have alumni like Jose, Aaliayah, and La’Nell on our team, continuing to give back and helping the next generation build brighter futures!
