🇪🇺 Strengthening Europe’s response to threats to democracy. Foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) and disinformation can undermine elections, distort public debate and weaken trust in democratic institutions. As part of the European Democracy Shield, the EU established the European Centre for Democratic Resilience (ECDR) to empower, protect, and promote strong and resilient democracies across the EU. The Centre provides a framework for EU institutions, Member States and partners to exchange expertise and develop practical tools to counter threats affecting democratic processes. The ECDR is working on: 💠 Creating more effective and innovative tools to counter FIMI and disinformation 💠 Improving situational awareness and early warning capabilities 💠 Developing common concepts and methodologies for detecting FIMI 💠 Providing practical support for more resilient elections Learn more about the ECDR: link.europa.eu/wqJbrN
Good move toward the East! From all these good intentions and words, most are not new, the last one is key: 'providing practical support for more resilient elections'. This takes democracy infrastructure, not just short term emergency measures. So why is it a) since being mentionned in Democracy Shield and AI strategy, growing _European_ social media ventures got...one workshop. Not a word in SOTEU or elsewhere. b) Regarding enlargement countries, why is the Commission not seriously supporting Brussels correspondents of Eastern European media? (despite EP being ready to vote the funds). Can democracy happen without journalists?
