The businesses that think about value early usually have more options later. Starting the conversation with your clients now gives them time to understand where their business stands, identify opportunities to build value and make changes well before an exit is on the table. {business valuation, exit planning, accountants australia, business strategy, succession planning, business value, SME advisory, planning ahead, BVOPro}

Growing turnover is only part of the story. The real challenge is translating growth into higher productivity, stronger profitability and lasting value. Pleased to have represented EMCS at this discussion on Malta’s family businesses, organised together with The Malta Chamber and the Family Business Office Malta. My message was straightforward: stronger governance and investment in productive capital must go hand in hand. Clear responsibilities, informed decisions and better processes help businesses make the most of investment in technology, equipment and people. For Malta’s family businesses, professionalisation is essential to sustaining success across generations. Although, judging by my photo, there’s also room for improvement in our photo-selection process! 😅 #FamilyBusiness #Productivity #Governance #Malta
Growth without stronger governance is difficult to sustain. As highlighted during the Family Business Conference, businesses need to professionalise, strengthen governance structures and invest in productive capital to secure long-term success. "I wish I'd started this conversation five years ago." It's something I hear far too often from business owners planning their exit. By the time they come to us, some of the best options, like an EOT or a well-prepared MBO, are already off the table. It doesn't have to be that way, and that's what our webinar next Wednesday is all about. 📅 Wednesday 30th September 🕙 10 - 11am I'll be joined by Crawfurd Walker at Elephants Child, and the webinar will be hosted by Marie Pegram. We'll cover: ✅ The four main exit routes: EOTs, MBOs, Trade Sales and Succession Planning ✅ What each route involves, and who it typically suits ✅ Why early planning matters — and what "early" really means ✅ Common mistakes owners make when they leave it too late ✅ How to start thinking about the right path for your business ✅ Where to go next, whatever stage you're at Whether you're actively considering your exit or simply want to understand your options early, this session will give you a clear, practical starting point. A Business is Worth More Than Its Financial Statements When business owners think about value, they often focus on revenue, profit, and growth. Buyers certainly care about those things. But they also care about the assets that don't show up on a balance sheet. These include customer relationships, workforce strength, leadership depth, and company systems. Imagine two businesses with identical profits: Business A depends almost entirely on the owner. Business B has strong management, documented processes, loyal customers, and a recognizable brand. Which one commands a higher valuation? Usually Business B. Every improvement you make that reduces dependence on you often increases the value of the business. That's not just good exit planning. That's good business. #BusinessValue #ExitPlanning #CEPA #BusinessOwner #EPI

Navigating complex business valuations for a sale can feel overwhelming. Giving up on maximizing value is. You dove into the financials. You sought expert guidance. You prepared for the market. And if the initial offers weren't optimal? So what? Most owners stop refining their exit strategy because they're afraid of uncovering more challenges. You faced those challenges because you were brave enough to aim for top value. And that's something to be proud of. Every market challenge is a lesson in value discovery. Keep refining until your legacy is truly realized. #GenerationalGroup #ExitPlanning #BusinessValuation #MaximizeValue

management team on an org chart is not the same as a management team a buyer trusts. Most groups have the first. Few have the second. A buyer does not evaluate titles. He evaluates whether the people holding them can run the business without the owner in the room. Whether the CFO can defend the numbers under direct questioning. Whether the operations head can explain a decision the owner made five years ago. Whether anyone besides the chairman actually understands how the group fits together. This is tested, not assumed. Buyers meet the team, separately from the owner, and form a view in a single conversation that no org chart can replicate. A group can have a CFO, a COO, and department heads, and still fail this test if none of them can speak with authority about the business as a whole. Titles create the appearance of depth. Only judgment, under real questions, proves it. The groups that pass this test did not build it for the sale. They built it years earlier, because the owner wanted people who could think, not just execute. That difference becomes visible the moment a buyer starts asking questions the owner is not in the room to answer. If your management team were interviewed today, without you present, what would a buyer conclude? #MergersAndAcquisitions #Kuwait #GCC #FamilyBusiness #ExitReadiness #Succession

Most owners start preparing for a sale when a buyer appears or when they finally feel ready to step back. By then, the value of the business has already been largely determined by years of decisions that can no longer be changed. The businesses that command strong valuations are the ones that built transferable value quietly over time: documented strategy, governance that functions without the owner, clean financials, and a leadership team capable of running the business on its own. None of that can be manufactured in the months before a deal. When owners treat readiness as an ongoing standard rather than a last-minute project, they gain something more valuable than a higher price. They gain optionality, the freedom to transition on their own terms, at a moment of their choosing, rather than under pressure. Prepare early, and the exit works for you rather than the other way around. #ExitStrategy #EnterpriseValue #SuccessionPlanning #CorporateGovernance #ValueCreation #PrivatelyHeldBusiness #IntegratedGrowthAdvisors
