Connecting to public Wi-FI? We’ve got your back.
For 10 years, Opera has offered a free VPN built directly into the browser. Now it’s even easier to use.
Opera’s free VPN for desktop can now automatically turn on when you connect to an unprotected network, giving you more privacy from the moment you start browsing.
To set it up, simply go to Settings > VPN > and toggle on “Always use VPN on Public WiFi”.
This feature is rolling out initially in France and the US, with more regions to follow.

Opera’s Free VPN Gets Automatic Public Wi-Fi Protection in the US and France + Video
Introduction Opera is making its built-in free VPN more convenient for desktop users by introducing an optional automatic activation feature designed to protect users when they connect to public or unsecured Wi-Fi networks. The feature, announced today, is initially rolling out to Opera users in the United States and France. Once enabled, the browser can automatically activate its VPN when it detects a public or unsecured wireless network, removing the need for users to remember to switch the VPN on themselves....

Most founders build their business with conviction. They know their market, they know their product, they know what sets them apart.
And then they have a website that says none of it.
Sometimes because the digital presence became a formality and no one questioned it again. Sometimes because the workload always pushes it to later. Often, both at once.
Your website speaks before you do. It arrives before any meeting, before any referral.
We've updated Opera Magnia's site.

This week I built OH-pera with Anastasiya — an opera discovery site for NYC, letting people search performances across multiple companies in one place (by opera, composer, date, or venue), with a no-login shortlist feature.
The hardest part? Trust. Opera companies publish schedules inconsistently — some incomplete, some outdated. We had to learn to distinguish confirmed shows from announcements, flag source freshness, and never invent missing details.
We also applied real PRD and security practices: validating external data/ticket links, updating vulnerable dependencies, and being transparent about how saved data works.
Proud of the balance of usability + design — warm colors, pencil-style venue illustrations, opera-company histories, and a simplified Saved page. Still refining coverage, but excited about where this is headed. 🎶

This month, we published an article on Phantoms. Not of the Opera, but of the listing kind. 👻
We defined phantom listings last time, so let's talk about what they actually cost you.
Here's the thing: site selectors who hit a dead listing don't complain. They just leave. Which means most EDOs never even realize a listing failed. The damage happens quietly, on the other end, and you don’t have time to react before the true cost hits you.
For the CRE community, knowing what's at stake is essential. Check out the full article here → https://lnkd.in/eRffdQ97

Building the infrastructure for a new kind of opera presenter
Opera Verace, the presenting arm of Opera Verace Foundation, presents opera not as an end in itself but as the mechanism through which breakthrough-ready singers get professional performance opportunities with orchestra, in front of live audiences, with professional recordings that the artists can use for professional purposes.
Our upcoming productions and partnerships: a semi-staged performance of highlights from Don Giovanni, in costume, at the Mozartsaal of the Wiener Konzerthaus, conducted by Alma Deutscher with the Wiener Kammerorchester in November 2026, as well as three operas at the Wiener Konzerthaus with Alma Deutscher conducting in 2027; a partnership with the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras in which we cast emerging young singers in annual operas with recordings; partnerships with Teatro Nuovo in New York and with Opera Fuoco in Paris to record their productions featuring emerging young singers; and a season we are planning at the MuTh hall in Vienna, with performances and recordings that give leading roles to emerging young singers.
The common thread through all of these productions is high-quality audio and video recordings with demo reels provided to the artists for their professional development and for public broadcast to entice new audiences to attend opera.
Our partnership model is directed at casting outstanding emerging young singers and funding recordings of their performances, whether in our own productions or those of partner organizations. The result is expanded opportunities to grow the visibility of talented emerging young singers, opportunities that would otherwise be limited.
If you lead an orchestra or venue interested in this kind of partnership, we are interested in hearing from you.

Opera’s latest update to Opera Air redefines what a browser can be by placing user focus and mental well-being front and center. With minimalist design, a built-in ad blocker, free VPN, ambient Soundscapes, and break reminders for mindfulness and posture, it addresses more than just functionality. This direction suggests browsers are evolving beyond speed and extensions—attention management and digital wellness are becoming core features. Expect more competition as other browsers respond to this shift with their own designs and focus tools.

Last week Mayor Mamdani announced, from the Metropolitan Opera stage, that New York City is partnering with the Met to give away 70,000 opera tickets this season.
By partnering with the city, the Met gains access to a broad network already connected to millions of New Yorkers outside its normal customer base.
But there’s a second opportunity here, and it could matter just as much as access.
The Met is about to have a rare opportunity to learn what could make these new and lapsed patrons want to come back.
