The future of AI and HPC performance depends not only on compute power, but on how efficiently data moves between logic and memory. As workloads scale, traditional architectures are increasingly constrained by bandwidth, latency, and power challenges. Samsung Foundry is helping address this “memory wall” through advanced logic-memory integration, combining high-bandwidth memory with advanced process technology and packaging innovation to support next-generation AI and HPC architectures. In our latest Tech Blog, learn how Samsung’s custom HBM can help enable greater bandwidth, lower latency, improved power efficiency, and more flexible system architectures for next-generation AI and HPC systems. Read the full Tech Blog here: https://lnkd.in/g9ungXf8. Samsung’s custom HBM mockup will also be on display at the OCP Global Summit starting October 13. Come check it out in person, and stay tuned for more. #SamsungFoundry #HBM #AI #HPC #AdvancedPackaging #Semiconductors #Chiplets #SamsungSemiUS #OCPSummit2026
The custom logic base die opens an interesting question that how much of the memory subsystem should move off the accelerator and closer to the DRAM?The opportunity extends to how ASIC, memory and packaging teams co-design the system. It will be interesting to see how customer-specific optimization can coexist with multi-source supply flexibility.
What stands out to me is how the base die is becoming an active part of the memory architecture rather than simply supporting the stack. Bringing memory control and additional logic closer to the HBM can shorten data paths while improving power efficiency, but it also makes the integration and packaging much more important. It’s a great example of how performance increasingly depends on designing the whole system together.
Overcoming the memory wall is definitely the biggest challenge for AI hardware right now. Really interesting architecture👏🏻
Advanced packaging and high-bandwidth memory are becoming essential to overcoming AI and HPC performance bottlenecks. An exciting development in next-generation semiconductor architecture!
