Proud to see Zero Suicide International and Henry Ford Health represented on the global stage at #WHA79 co-hosting the sole Official Side Event dedicated to advancing global suicide prevention. Led by Nepal, Kenya, South Africa, Sri Lanka, University of Edinburgh, and Zero Suicide International in partnership with Henry Ford Health, A Global Pursuit of Suicide Prevention: Turning Evidence into Action brought together leaders from WHO, ministries of health, academia, and international organizations at WHO Headquarters in Geneva to advance evidence-informed approaches to suicide prevention. Speakers highlighted approaches ranging from health system strengthening and clinical care to population-level prevention strategies, means safety initiatives, and cross-sector collaboration. Representing Zero Suicide International, Executive Director Brian Ahmedani highlighted the role health systems can play in suicide prevention through sustained leadership, evidence-based practices, and safer systems of care, reinforcing how health system transformation can contribute alongside broader national and global prevention efforts. We are grateful to our event co-sponsors Brazil, Guyana, Kenya, the Republic of Korea, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, Thailand, the International Association for Suicide Prevention, and the @United Nations Environment Programme for helping elevate suicide prevention as a global public health priority. Thank you to the Henry Ford Health Zero Suicide International team – Joslyn Westphal, John Zervos, and Deepak Prabhakar, MD, MPH – and to our co-hosts, co-sponsors, speakers, and partners whose collaboration made this important discussion possible. Special thank you to our partners in Nepal for their help in coordinating this landmark event. Together with the World Health Organization, ministries of health, and partners across sectors, we continue working toward a shared goal: translating evidence into action to save lives.
