Gen-Z and Agentic AI: Redefining the Future of Work in Jordan and Beyond
I had the honor of participating in the Graduation Ceremony of the Unihance – Digiskills Digital Upskilling & Employment Program — a landmark initiative that is equipping Jordan’s youth with the skills they need to thrive in today’s evolving labor market
As part of a panel discussion, I reflected on two important questions:
These questions go to the heart of how we prepare our young professionals for a future where technology and human ambition work side by side.
🔹 Unlocking Gen-Z Performance and Retention
Gen-Z brings tremendous digital fluency, curiosity, and ambition to the workplace. But their expectations differ from Gen X and Y — and employers must adapt if they want to attract and retain this new generation of talent.
From my experience at Microsoft, EY, and now AugentisAI, I often return to Microsoft’s three leadership principles:
These principles, combined with five workplace conditions, can unlock sustained performance for Gen-Z:
1️⃣ Role clarity – knowing exactly what impact they’re making.
2️⃣ Fast feedback cycles – continuous input, not just quarterly reviews.
3️⃣ Hybrid flexibility – freedom in contribution, with in-person mentorship and culture.
4️⃣ Mission fit – alignment between company purpose and personal values.
5️⃣ Growth ladders – clear pathways for skill development and mobility.
And when it comes to retention in the first 12 months, three mechanisms stand out:
Finally, I shared with graduates Dan Lok’s Profit–Passion–Purpose triangle:

The sweet spot is when all three intersect — what you love, what makes money, and what creates impact. When organizations help young professionals find this alignment, performance and retention follow naturally.
🔹 Agentic AI and the Transformation of Entry-Level Roles
The rise of Agentic AI — systems that plan, reason, and act autonomously — will inevitably reshape junior workflows first. That’s why organizations must be intentional in how they redesign jobs.
Where AI will displace:
Where AI will augment:
Here, I echo Satya Nadella’s message: AI isn’t here to take jobs, it’s here to transform them. But this transformation is not immediate — it unfolds in phases, similar to how frontier companies evolve:
1️⃣ Efficiency – automation of repetitive tasks.
2️⃣ Collaboration – humans and AI share workflows, with graduates as orchestrators and reviewers.
3️⃣ Redefinition – new career paths emerge: AI supervisors, ethical AI leads, multi-agent system designers.
This means entry-level jobs won’t disappear; they’ll be reshaped into higher-value roles where strategic thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability are even more critical alongside technical skills.
To manage this shift, we need job redesign:
Handled correctly, Agentic AI will not raise youth unemployment. Instead, it will accelerate productivity while opening stronger entry points for Gen-Z to gain AI fluency early in their careers.
🔹 Closing Thoughts
The future of work in Jordan — and globally — will be defined by how we balance technology adoption with human potential.
✨ My message to the graduates of Unihance – Digiskills: Don’t fear AI. Embrace it. Shape it. With the right mindset, you can turn disruption into opportunity, and build careers that are impactful, purposeful, and future-ready.

Huge thanks to the orchestrator behind the scenes, Momen obeidat!!
Fascinating article and analogy! As a proud Gen-X’er, I can’t help but think Gen-Z will face their own set of challenges as AI keeps advancing and diffusing everywhere. Over-automation and ‘surveillance-style’ environments could end up being a double-edged sword—great for efficiency but potentially restrictive for creativity and critical thinking. It might even erode sense of empowerment and confidence in human judgment. That’s where leadership has to evolve—empowering people, balancing trust with accountability, and navigating the new kinds of biases and norms for diversity that will surely emerge. And of course, all of this is said with the caveat of our limited knowledge today… the next era may surprise us all (probably in ways no AI can fully predict yet 😅)
