We’re expanding access to GPT-Rosalind for academic research. The new Rosalind Academic Plan helps scientific labs at academic institutions bring AI into the work of understanding biology, exploring ideas, and deciding what to test next—with sponsored access for eligible labs at U.S. universities. Academic research creates knowledge that entire fields build on. A fundamental question about biology can open new directions in medicine, drug discovery, or our understanding of disease. We want more researchers to have access to tools that support that work. GPT-Rosalind is built for life sciences research, helping scientists reason across scientific literature and biological data. Researchers bring the expertise and judgment to evaluate the evidence and decide which ideas to pursue. Eligible labs can receive up to 12 months of sponsored access to OpenAI tools, with GPT-Rosalind access subject to trusted-access approval. Learn about the Rosalind Academic Plan, check your lab’s eligibility, and find out how to apply: https://lnkd.in/eP9iXYRu

A pleasure to join Sir Nigel Shadbolt at the Oxford Generative AI Summitat Jesus College today. Britain has the talent, research institutions and experience to seize the opportunities AI presents. Our record in technology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences should give us confidence. We need to back frontier research and help people across the country build the skills and confidence to use AI. OpenAI’s five-year partnership with the University of Oxford puts that ambition into practice. That ambition also drives our work through OpenAI for Countries: partnering with governments to build the operating system, skills and access that can translate AI advances into better education, stronger public services and new economic opportunities. There is a strategic responsibility here, too. As we discussed, democratic governments need access to these capabilities to strengthen their cyber defences against rogue actors developing similar tools. We must equip those protecting our institutions and essential services to stay ahead of those seeking to attack them. The choices countries make now will shape how AI develops and whose values it reflects. Through trusted international partnerships, we want to help countries build their own capabilities, with security, individual freedom and broad access at their heart. Thank you to Nigel and the OxGen team for a thoughtful conversation. OpenAI Global Affairs #OxGen26 #Oxford #OpenAI

College students. Game night could use something new. Create a Multiplayer Game is our featured OpenAI mission and October challenge on Handshake’s AI Skills Studio. We co-designed it with Handshake to help you turn a game idea into something your friends can play, using ChatGPT. Quick trivia for the group chat? A word game with a twist? Start with an idea you’d want to try. Decide how people play, what makes it fun, and how someone wins. Then build a first version and see what happens when your friends get their hands on it. The mission’s estimated time is 45 minutes. You’ll build AI skills and have a game to show for it. You'll also have $1,000 if you win the challenge! Got an idea? Let’s get it out of the group chat and into a game. Create a Multiplayer Game: https://lnkd.in/gKvX6txx #AISkillsStudio

We’re proud to be a founding partner of Handshake's AI Skills Studio, and amazed at what college students are already creating. Bring an idea, build with AI, and leave with a project you can show employers. Want a place to start? Our featured mission and October challenge is Create a Multiplayer Game. Use ChatGPT to build a game, try it out, and get your friends playing. For a little inspiration, take a look at what three students shared at a recent Handshake showcase in London: Arini R. turned her interest in sustainability into a route planner for London thrift shops. Aaron Murray-Dickson built Forest Frenzy, a pixel art game. Maymunah Qamar made a platform to track marketing ROI across channels. Three very different ideas, all built through missions on AI Skills Studio. Each gives its creator something to show and a story to tell about how they made it. Finish a mission and your project, and verified skills appear on your Handshake profile, where employers can see what you can do. Got a game idea of your own? Give it a try. Try the featured mission: https://lnkd.in/gKvX6txx #AISkillsStudio

Real learning doesn't come from AI smoothing away every hard moment, says Leah Belsky, head of education at OpenAI. In this episode of WorkLife, she argues that today's AI is great at giving fast, personalized answers, but real learning needs friction: the kind that makes someone stop, reflect and actually remember what they learned. Listen to more insights like these on WorkLife with Molly Graham, wherever you get your podcasts. http://t.ted.com/M746yob

What does it take for AI to help kids really learn? Molly Graham and OpenAI’s Leah Belsky explore the role of teachers, why struggle matters, and what happens when students use AI to bring their own ideas to life. Plenty to think about for educators and parents alike. Link to the whole conversation: https://lnkd.in/gFhqE45p
Struggling is essential to learning. This is one of the things I've been thinking about a lot since my conversation with Leah Belsky, who runs education at OpenAI. AI is extraordinarily good at removing friction. A kid can take a picture of a long-division problem and get an explanation — or an answer — instantly. And it can feel like learning. But sometimes the friction is the learning. Getting stuck. Trying something that doesn’t work. Sitting with the problem longer than you want to. Building the muscle to figure something out yourself. For years, edtech has been chasing the dream of a personalized tutor for every kid. Leah told me she now thinks that dream is further away than she expected — partly because a great tutor knows when not to give you the answer. They know when to make you struggle. Which feels like one of the harder questions we’ll have to answer about AI and education: where is friction unnecessary, and where is it essential? Because if we make everything easier, we may accidentally make some things harder to learn. The whole conversation was different from what I expected and very worth listening to. Link in comments.

Using Voice mode to think through, create, and refine an idea on the fly is a powerful way to unlock new ways of working with ChatGPT. In this video, Kirk walks through a familiar educator workflow: making sense of student emails, finding time to meet, and updating lesson materials. Then he changes direction: what if that slide deck became an interactive site with a group activity for students? This is one of the things we love about Voice mode: you can talk through what you need, rethink the approach, and keep building from the context you’ve already shared. Watch the walkthrough below. How do you use Voice mode?
