Construction Moves Forward at Historic Rosenwald Site

Progress continues on the transformation of the historic Rosenwald school site into a park and community center. A recent community meeting gave residents a look at what’s been completed, what’s underway, and what comes next.

Walking paths, pavilions, and initial stormwater improvements are complete. Construction of a fishing pier, kayak launch, and additional stormwater enhancements is underway.

The next major milestone is construction of the new community center, featuring flexible meeting and event spaces, multipurpose rooms, and covered outdoor gathering areas.

Residents are invited to celebrate at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the site.

Take a Rain Check on Fertilizer

Beginning October 1, fertilizer containing nitrogen can once again be applied to lawns, but it must contain at least 65% slow-release nitrogen and no phosphorus. Remember to check the forecast and avoid applying fertilizer before heavy rain.

That’s just one way to help protect local waterways. Residents should also make sure grass clippings, pet waste and other pollutants stay out of storm drains, where they can flow into local waterways when it rains.
