Biography
The band became well known in the music industry when it posted their version of the song "Je Veux Te Voir" on Myspace in 2005, it went on to reach the top five in France.
Following the success of their cover song they went to work on their debut album called "Pop Up", which was released in 2007. In 2011 they released their second album called "Safari Disco Club".
They went on tour for three years in support of "Pop Up" after gaining a lot of recognition in foreign/ non-french speaking countries for their music as well.
GrandMarnier and Tepr produce the music, alongside Budet who writes all the lyrics. The album "Pop Up" is an electropop style genre with some 1980s influences.
In 2014 they announced their third studio album called "Complètement fou", the album was produced by Dr. Luke who discovered the group from hearing their remix of Katy Perry's song "Hot n Cold".
Due to the groups popularity on their "Pop Up" album, they were asked to try recording it in English, but they insisted they would not feel right singing in a language they did not understand, so declined to do so.
The members say they each have different influences to their music style to make them unique. Grandmarnier is influenced by rock music like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, while Tepr liked rap and some techno music. Budet has said artists such as Snoop Dogg and Madonna are influences for her musical style.
Live reviews
I LOVE LOVE LOVE YELLE, I had no idea other people liked her as much as I did. I am a huge fan, and I don't even speak French. I have been listening to her for about three years now. really love every single one of her tracks. I couldn't believe how good she preformed, she hit the spots. I danced the entire time, maybe because I like to dance buy Yelle's music does that to people. She had an amazing light show with a perfect playlist. I would pay a great deal of money just to live that night again. it was like a dream come true.
Getting the chance to see here in Portland was crazy, a dream come true, I never would have thought she would be on tour on the west coast, in Portland of all places. After the show we got them to do a Encore to do another two songs. Yelle was so happy, I think she even cried over the excitement. What a wonderful person. The crowd was very pleased.
after the concert Yelle, waited around and gave all of her fans undivided attention. I waited in line and I did not feel rushed at all. she was so nice, I got her autograph and she actually gave me a hug, a good one too. I got to meet her drummer too, that was fun, after seeing him in the music video several times I was kinda star struck to actually meet them both.
Yelle really out did herself, I recommend this concert to anyone. I have been to well over 100 concerts and I would say this one was by far my favorite.
Ok first things first, I'm not French. I have no real understanding of the French language, and the closest I've been to France was at a bistro downtown for lunch. But you don't need to understand French to understand how amazing Yelle is live.
If you've heard her sing from watching Youtube or whatever, don't even compare - it's way better live. Her music just makes you dance... there's no other way to explain it. Yelle herself has some crazy sick moves, and she wears totally hot outfits too. Once she starts dancing, it's hard to resist.
I went with some friends, and once Safari Disco Club started playing, I couldn't stop myself from shaking my butt around and getting down to the beats. Yelle's music is nearly perfect for dancing to at a club. The entire crowd starts to dance anyways, so you won't feel awkward or anything. The crowd was mostly younger people, like maybe 20 years olds. Oh, and I forgot to mention almost, but the drummer, I don't know his name, but he's totally awesome.
When he asks if you want to hear an encore, make sure you yell yes at him, because the encore is amazing. My favorite performances were Ce Jeu, Safari Disco Club, and Je Veux Te Voir.
Awesome concert. Great sound. Nice stage. Staff was very friendly.
As for the performance. What can I say ??? It was phenomenal. The energy and interaction by the band was awesome. They had us jumping. Clapping. Singing along to their hits. It really was a great evening. And they just kept adding more and more songs to the set. Encore after encore.
Would definitely return for the next show!
Loved this show! Yelle really amazes me with her lights and acrobatics. She also has two amazing drummer boys slamming away on the drums. Their choreography was on point. Yelle want all my favorite songs and some new ones. I am really happy I didn't miss this show. I also took some friends who didn't know who Yelle was and they enjoyed it thoroughly.
Mi parte favorita fue en la que le habló al público en italiano. Alguien le estaba aventando palomitas a uno de los bateristas, que pedo con eso. Abrió un grupo también, eso pasó.
