Wikiabstrak app

Wikiabstrak App

A new app has been developed by Affandy Murad, a volunteer on Indonesian Wikipedia and other projects: Wikiabstrak.

The app itself describes it as such:

“Wikiabstrak is an open experiment that turns structured Wikidata into readable summaries, without any language model (LLM). Search for a country, place, person or building and it assembles a paragraph from Wikidata claims using fixed rules, so every sentence can be traced back to its source.

“It also shows key facts, photos from Wikimedia Commons, links to every Wikimedia project, and a ready-made lead-paragraph recipe for Abstract Wikipedia, so you can start or edit language-independent articles.”

Enjoy using the app! If you have suggestions, you can reach Affandy in project telegram / IRC chat, or on his user talk page. Also check out the other apps that Affandy has created and that are listed on his userpage.

No changes in the software this week

Due to the PHP vulnerabilities published this week, we decided to skip deployment beyond safety critical changes.

Recording of October Volunteer’s Corner

This month’s volunteers’ corner meeting (12 October 2026) is now available as a recording on Commons. Thank you for the lively discussion and new ideas!

Next Volunteers’ Corner on November 9 at 11 UTC

The next Volunteers’ Corner will be on Monday, 9 November 2026 at 11:00 UTC. Note the earlier time in the day, in order to make it easier for some folks to attend this one. We plan to have the following agenda: there will be time to ask questions and discuss all matters arising. If we have time, we will write a function together. Everyone is welcome to join us on Google Meet.

This week we had 169 new functions. Here is an incomplete list of functions with implementations and passing tests to get a taste of what functions have been created. Thanks everybody for contributing!
