Sanna Marin is to divorce her husband, Markus Räikkönen.

Announcing the divorce on Instagram, Marin and Räikkönen both separately posted a picture of themselves.

Their joint statement said they remain best friends and would continue to spend time together as a family with their daughter, while requesting that their privacy be respected and stating they would not comment further on the matter.

Marin has been in a relationship with Räikkönen, a businessman and former footballer with TPV Tampere, for 19 years. They married in 2020.

Marin became Prime Minister in 2019 and served in the post until April's election, which saw the National Coalition Party emerge as the largest party.

She remains premier in a caretaker capacity until the new coalition government is formed.
