  4. What is the differnce between DCS and SCADA?

Question 1: What is the differnce between PLC and DCS?

Answer: PLC is a programmable logic controller which can handle the binary input and output of the logic statement which are stored in its memory. Its a digitally operating system which are logic stored in its memory by programming system. DCS:-Distributed control system its control all types ofprocess variable at a time through this we can control the whole plant,we can see the status of plant, and handling the units.

Question 2: What is mean by hot and cold loop testing? What is the difference between them?

Answer: Cold Loop checking: Checking of wires continuity of respective field instrument-Junction box-DCS/PLC marshalling panel terminal. Hot loop checking: Once you power up your field instrument through DCS/PLC system, by stimulating process input from respective field instrument and cross check its response at DCS/PLC sytsem. There is no such differnce as a cold and hot loop check. There is a wiring/ point to point that all should do before carrying out a loop check from field device to DCS display.

Question 4: What is the differnce between DCS and SCADA?

Answer: SCADA abbreviated as Supervisory Control and Data Aquision. Simply it will collect the date from the hardware controller (DCS, PLC) and shows the process variables like Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level etc. This software product used to monitor, control(by using back end Hardware controller like DCS, PLC etc) your process data Whereas DCS abbreviated as Distributed Control System. DCS having it's own network, Hardware controller and Software Package. The system having different Hardware controller connected in the network (own by individual vendor like Honeywell, Yokogawa, Foxboro, ABB, Emerson etc) and shows the process variable through SCA...
