Monuments crying for attention

A 20-foot tall pillar inscription, belonging to the Kadamda dynasty, is lying in a dilapidated condition at Gudnapur, 4 km from Banavasi.

The pillar, belonging to the period of king Ravivarma, is at the entrance of the summer palace.

The inscription is important because it gives genealogy of Kadamba rulers, beginning from its founder Veera Sharma, in the fourth century AD.

There are 27 lines in the inscription.

Brahmi script

It is in Brahmi script and the language of the inscription is Sanskrit. Some parts of the pillar are broken.

The concerned officials and departments should take appropriate action agaist this to conserve the inscription for posterity.
