He <a href=\"https:\/\/100noticias.tv\/migracion\/149695-dhs-luis-galeano-estadia-legal-asilo\/\">fled Nicaragua in 2018<\/a> after the Ortega-Murillo government stripped nearly 100 journalists of their citizenship in retaliation for covering its crackdown on dissent. He has since reported on Nicaraguan and Florida communities from exile, holds a Social Security number and work permit, and has an asylum case that has been pending for nearly seven years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The groups warned that Galeano <a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/es\/am%C3%A9rica-latina\/20260915-qui%C3%A9n-es-luis-galeano-el-periodista-nicarag%C3%BCense-exiliado-y-ahora-detenido-por-ice\">faces serious danger if deported<\/a>, noting the Department of Homeland Security <a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/nicaragua\/2026\/09\/14\/periodista-nicaraguense-desnacionalizado-arresto-del-ice-en-orlando-y-un-viaje-temido-el-caso-de-luis-galeano-tras-la-cancelacion-del-tps\/\">ended Temporary Protected Status<\/a> for Nicaraguan immigrants in July 2025.
