Pearson Prentice Hall is the nation's leading educational secondary publisher of scientifically researched and standards-based instruction materials for today's 6–12th grade classrooms. Our mission is to create exceptional educational tools that ensure student and teacher success in language arts, mathematics, modern & classical languages, science, social studies, career & technology, and advanced placement, electives, and honors.
Pearson Prentice Hall is a division of Pearson Education, the global leader in integrated education publishing. With such renowned brands as Pearson Prentice Hall, Pearson Longman, Pearson Scott Foresman, Pearson Addison Wesley, Pearson NCS, and many others, Pearson Education provides quality content, assessment tools, and educational services in all available media, spanning the learning curve from birth through college and beyond.
Pearson Prentice Hall is part of a publishing institution that dates back to 1725 when Thomas Longman published the first book typeset by Benjamin Franklin. In 1913, law professor Dr. Charles Gerstenberg and his student Richard Ettinger founded Prentice Hall. Taking their mothers' maiden names—Prentice and Hall—to name their new company, Gerstenberg and Ettinger would create the premier U.S. publisher of academic, business, and professional books.
In 1950, Prentice Hall formed its first Educational Book Division. Over the next several decades, Prentice Hall published many successful educational programs from its headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
In 1997, Simon & Schuster formed the K–12 Publishing Division, comprising Silver Burdett Ginn (SBG), Prentice Hall School, and Globe Fearon. One year later, Simon & Schuster's parent company, Viacom, sold all of the Simon & Schuster educational operations to Pearson plc, creating Pearson Education.
In 1999, Pearson Education introduced Open Book Publishing, the first of its kind quality-assurance initiative, with the goal of one hundred percent factual accuracy in its textbooks.
In 2000, Pearson Education and LessonLab, a pioneer in large-scale research and development of rich-media technologies for teaching and professional development, announce a partnership agreement to deliver LessonLab's online platform to Pearson Education's K–12 customers.
In 2002, Pearson Prentice Hall marked expansion into Career and Technology Education with the purchase of Interstate Publishers, leaders in agriculture education, and the acquisition of DDC Publishing, a provider of software training titles to the high school and post-secondary markets.
