Sharon and Mike talk about the issue of Kubernetes management - who's managing it? When you're building a K8s team, should you develop in-house talent or bring in freelancers/contractors? What about the role of managed services? Mike and Sharon then explore the issue of automation in Kubernetes as well as control planes and IDPs in cloud-native environments.Links Referenced in Podcast:Who Manages Kubernetes?https://cloudnativenow.com/features/scaling-your-kubernetes-team-in-house-vs-freelance/How Automated Can Kubernetes Management Get?https://cloudnativenow.com/features/extending-kubernetes-with-automation/In the Eye of the Crossplane:https://cloudnativenow.com/features/crossplane-maintainers-add-python-support-to-control-plane/IDPs in the Cloud-Native Era:https://techstrong.tv/videos/interviews/red-hats-markus-eisele-internal-developer-portal

In this episode of the Cloud Native Now Podcast, Mike and Sharon deliver a eulogy for Weaveworks, which founder Alexis Richardson announced in a LinkedIn post this week would shut down after it failed to secure necessary funding. Weaveworks was a critical foundation of the GitOps movement and its Flux project provides GitOps for apps and infrastructure. As of 2022, the project boasted more than 1 billion downloads, and it is a graduated project with the CNCF. Why is GitOps so important? What is Flux? And what happens to GitOps and Flux now that Weaveworks is no more? Tune in to find out.
