Rotoworld Player News

  • FA Quarterback
In addition to meeting with the Giants and Vikings, Schultz said multiple sources have also shared that Penix will have top 30 visits with the Broncos, Falcons, Raiders, and Commanders. Penix impressed as Washington’s Pro Day last week, running a 40-yard dash in the 4.5 range while also performing well in the vertical jump and excelling in passing drills. It’s no surprise that multiple teams with picks outside of the top five are interested in Penix, who could prove to be the answer to their quarterback woes. While it would be a surprise to see him go as high as No. 2 to the Commanders, we shouldn’t rule out any of these other teams taking a shot on him if he falls to them.
  • WAS Quarterback #12
Driskel is a former sixth-round pick who has played for seven different teams since entering the league in 2016. He’s thrown for 2,394 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in his career and has made 12 starts. Driskel could compete for the third quarterback spot on the Commanders’ roster if they opt to keep three, but would otherwise have a chance to land on the practice squad.
  • WAS Wide Receiver #13
Zaccheaus spent the first four years of his career with the Falcons, where he totaled 94 receptions for 1,328 yards and eight touchdowns. He spent 2023 with the Eagles, where he played in a backup role, going for 10-164-2 on 20 targets. Depending on what the Commanders do in the draft, Zaccheaus could earn a meaningful role with them in 2024, but we wouldn’t view this as any more than a depth signing at this time.
  • CLG Quarterback
It’s worth reminding everyone that we are in prime smokescreen season. We’re also more than a month away from the draft. With that said, the Commanders met with McCarthy at Michigan’s Pro Day and reportedly had dinner with him the night before. Currently holding the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft, the Commanders will presumably have their pick at any quarterback not named Caleb Williams — assuming they don’t trade out of their spot. They’re also expected to meet with Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels before draft day. McCarthy’s draft stock has risen immensely throughout this process, to the point where his being the second player off the board wouldn’t surprise anybody.
  • WAS Head Coach
The Commanders appear to be taking an open-minded approach with the No. 2 overall pick, which will presumably be used on a quarterback. In addition to saying they are willing to hear calls for offers to trade the No. 2 pick, head coach Dan Quinn has also said it’s “fair to envision” the team drafting a quarterback early in next month’s draft. Given the strength of this year’s class and the position that they’re in, it’s hard to imagine the Commanders not taking a shot on a franchise quarterback with a new regime in place and a need at the position.
  • WAS Center #63
Deiter started 10 games for the Texans last season, with all of his starts coming at center. The former third-round pick allowed three sacks on 20 pressures and earned a PFF blocking grade of 57.1. A four-year veteran of the league, Deiter has 33 career starts to his name and also has experience at guard. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him start a handful of games this upcoming season.
  • WAS Cornerback #42
Pierre’s signing shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a depth signing for now. The four-year corner has appeared in 66 games for his career but has made only six starts. Per PFF, Pierre has played 260 defensive snaps or less in three of his four seasons.
  • CLG Quarterback
Gaining more steam every day, McCarthy also met with the Giants this week, touring the team’s facility and talking with front office officials and coaches. Washington’s meeting with McCarthy could be something of a smoke screen as they decide between Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels and the Vikings creep up the draft board in pursuit of a franchise QB to replace Kirk Cousins. Rotoworld’s Zachary Krueger recently profiled McCarthy.
  • NO EDGE #99
Young’s contract is fully guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former No. 2 overall pick split time with the Commanders and 49ers last season and finished the year with 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and seven TFLs. The 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year has dealt with a torn ACL and questions about his efforts on and off the field in recent years, but now has a chance to begin anew in New Orleans. Pairing with veteran Cameron Jordan, Young will look to bolster a Saints pass rush that ranked 29th in total sacks (34) last season.
  • DEN Linebacker #57
In his lone season with the Commanders, Barton totaled 121 tackles and one interception in 13 games but earned a PFF defensive grade of 53.9. While Barton has compiled 100-plus tackles in each of his last two seasons, the veteran linebacker hasn’t proven to be a high-impact player and has struggled at times in coverage and against the run. Barton could slot in as a starter when needed, but he probably shouldn’t be counted on to lead a defense.
