Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Every week we bring you all the inactives from the 1 p.m. ET games in one post, constantly updated with the latest information.

There never seemed to be a chance that quarterback Jordan Love would play for the Packers this week, but the team declined to rule him out ahead of Sunday’s game against the Colts. They did downgrade him to doubtful on Saturday, however, and he is officially out after being placed on the inactive list 90 minutes ahead of kickoff.

Malik Willis will start for the Packers and he will have wide receiver Jayden Reed available to catch passes. Reed was listed as questionable due to calf and shin injuries.

The Colts will be without wide receiver Josh Downs again this week because of an ankle injury, but defensive tackle DeForest Buckner will play despite a back injury.

Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had a big game in the team’s overtime win over the Rams in Week 1 and it looks like he’ll be able to keep things rolling against the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Williams was listed as questionable to play against the Bucs because of a hamstring injury that limited him in practice all week, but multiple reports say that Williams is expected to be in the lineup for Detroit.

Williams had five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown last weekend. He also ran once for 13 yards.

The Lions elevated wide receivers Tom Kennedy and Tim Patrick from the practice squad on Saturday to extend their depth at the position whether Williams is active or not.

The Lions added a pair of wideouts to their roster for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

They announced that they have elevated Tom Kennedy and Tim Patrick from the practice squad. Both players will revert back to the practice squad after the game.

Kennedy and Patrick were called up a day after the Lions listed Jameson Williams as questionable to play because of an ankle injury that limited him in practice all week.

Kennedy played four offensive snaps and six defensive snaps last week, so his elevation may not be tied to Williams’s injury. Patrick did not play last week and has not appeared in a regular season game since 2021 after tearing his Achilles and ACL the last two years.

The Lions listed a pair of key offensive players as questionable to play against the Buccaneers this Sunday.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams and right tackle Penei Sewell both drew the designations due to ankle injuries. Williams was limited in practice all week while Sewell missed two days before getting in a limited session on Friday.

The Lions also listed safety Kerby Joseph as questionable, so they have outstanding issues on both sides of the ball. Joseph has been limited in practice by a hamstring injury.

Defensive lineman Marcus Davenport (groin) is not expected to play after drawing a doubtful tag. Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) and wide receiver Isaiah Williams (abdomen) have been ruled out.

The Buccaneers will be missing starters on both sides of the line against the Lions this Sunday.

Right tackle Luke Goedeke, defensive lineman Calijah Kancey, and safety Antoine Winfield were all ruled out by head coach Todd Bowles on Friday. Cornerback Josh Hayes is also going to miss the game.

Goedeke was diagnosed with a concussion during the week. Justin Skule is expected to start in his place against Detroit.

Kancey missed last Sunday’s game with a calf injury while Winfield is expected to miss multiple weeks with a foot injury. Hayes has an ankle injury.

Cornerback Zyon McCollum has progressed through the concussion protocol to the point that he’s practicing, so he has not been ruled out. Bowles indicated defensive end Logan Hall (foot) is also questionable after missing the opener.

The Lions had a couple of changes on their second injury report of the week, but two of their key offensive players remained the same as Wednesday.

Receiver Jameson Williams (ankle) was limited and offensive tackle Penei Sewell (ankle) did not participate. Sewell said on Wednesday that he was being held out for precautionary reasons and was planning to play.

The Lions added receiver Isaiah Williams (abdomen) to the report as a limited participant.

Safety Kerby Joseph (hamstring) was upgraded to a limited participant after he didn’t practice on Wednesday.

Defensive lineman Marcus Davenport (groin) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) remained out of practice.

Cornerback Carlton Davis (chest), defensive tackle D.J. Reader (quad), and safety Loren Strickland (thumb) were full.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is looking at Sunday’s game against the Lions as a measuring stick after the Lions knocked Tampa out of the playoffs last season, but there are differences from the last time that the two teams squared off.

One of the biggest is that cornerback Carlton Davis will be trying to stop Mayfield rather than Lions quarterback Jared Goff. The Buccaneers traded Davis to the Lions this offseason after he spent six years as a key part of the team’s defensive backfield, but Davis said this week that he isn’t gaining any extra motivation from that history.

Davis said he’s “not bitter or anything like that” and is approaching this game with the same mentality he has every week.

“It’s not personal for me, at all,” Davis said, via SI.com. “I could never get personal with these type of games, because it’s all business. They’re just the next opponent in our way and it’s a long journey,” Davis said. “Like I said, it’s a business. I do have a lot of love for those guys over there, but on Sunday it’s football, man. There’s no friends on the field, and there won’t be on Sunday.”

Bucs wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin combined for three touchdowns last weekend, so the Lions will be hoping that Davis’s familiarity with them will help the defense do a better job than the Commanders managed in the opener.

The Buccaneers got the 2024 season off to an impressive start by routing the Commanders in Week One, but they’re going to take a step up in competition this week.

A trip to Detroit looms for the defending NFC South champions and that means they’ll get plenty of reminders that their playoff run ended at the hands of the Lions at Ford Field in January. The Lions also beat the Bucs in the regular season and they came into this season as one of the favorites to win the conference, so it’s no surprise that quarterback Baker Mayfield sees this game as a chance for the Bucs to see how they measure up this year.

“Yeah, this is definitely one of those,” Mayfield said, via the team’s website. “I mean, every week you have to bring your best stuff. At this level, if you don’t show up you can get beat any given week. This is one of those – on the road with a team who was in the NFC Championship, where we aspire to be, so it’s one of those – you said it, measuring sticks to great competition [and] see how our guys handle it early on. You know, it’s a long season but we can learn a lot from this one.”

Given last season’s results, a win this Sunday would mean more to perceptions of the Bucs than it would to the view of the Lions. In the big picture, though, both teams are going to have a lot of work to do regardless of this weekend’s results.

After his breakout game in Week 1, receiver Jameson Williams has landed on the injury report.

The Lions listed Williams as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury.

It’s unclear if there’s any risk of Williams missing game time at this point. But Williams was the only limited player for the first session of the week.

Offensive tackle Penei Sewell did not participate with an ankle injury but noted that he sat out for precautionary reasons.

“I’m good,” Sewell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “That’s what it comes down to.”

Defensive lineman Marcus Davenport (groin), safety Kerby Joseph (hamstring), and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) also did not participate.

Cornerback Carlton Davis (chest), safety Loren Strickland (thumb), and defensive tackle D.J. Reader (quad) were full. Reader appears to be on track to make his Lions debut this weekend.

The Buccaneers have concerns about their secondary heading into Week 2.

They re-signed cornerback Keenan Isaac to add depth at the position after starting cornerback Zyon McCollum (concussion) and reserve Josh Hayes (ankle) left Sunday’s game along with Bryce Hall. Hall went on injured reserve with an ankle injury that required an air cast before he was carted off the field.

Isaac will take Hall’s roster spot.

The Bucs also will play without All-Pro safety Antoine Winfield (foot/ankle sprain) for a few weeks.

Isaac initially joined the Bucs as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State in 2023. He started the season on the practice squad and saw action in two games after being elevated for game day. He was signed to the active roster in Week 12 but did not see action in the next three games before returning to the practice squad.

Isaac went back to training camp with the Buccaneers this summer and appeared in all three preseason games, totaling three tackles and an interception. He was waived in the roster cutdown to 53 players and then claimed off waivers by the Panthers. Carolina waived Isaac on Saturday.
