Gabriel Moreno

ARI Catcher #14

Diamondbacks activated C Gabriel Moreno off the 10-day injured list.

Moreno is back after missing over a month with an adductor strain. The 24-year-old should see plenty of reps behind the plate, but Adrian Del Castillo will likely see a good amount of time as well. Paul Sewald was placed on the IL with a neck strain to make room for Moreno.
Paul Sewald

ARI Relief Pitcher #38

Diamondbacks placed RHP Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list with a left neck strain

Sewald will be out for two weeks, but can be activated before the end of the regular season as the assignment was backdated to September 12. Gabriel Moreno was activated in the corresponding transaction.
Randal Grichuk

ARI Center Fielder #15

Randal Grichuk was scratched from Sunday’s lineup versus the Brewers with lower body tightness.

Grichuk was supposed to hit third and play left field against the Brew Crew, but the outfielder will instead begin the game out of the lineup. According to manager Torey Lovullo, Grichuk will be available off the bench if necessary. Consider the outfielder day-to-day.
Randal Grichuk

ARI Center Fielder #15

Randal Grichuk was scratched from Sunday’s lineup against the Brewers.

Grichuk was slated to hit third and play left field, but instead he’ll retreat to the bench for reasons that have not been announced as of yet. With Grichuk out, Pavin Smith will get the start in left field and hit seventh.
Blake Walston

ARI Relief Pitcher #48

Diamondbacks recalled LHP Blake Walston from Triple-A Reno.

Walston, 23, is back with the Diamondbacks moving on from Dylan Floro. The 23-year-old lefty has a chance to make a start with Arizona before the season ends, but more than likely comes up as a multi-inning reliever.
Dylan Floro

ARI Relief Pitcher #55

Diamondbacks designated RHP Dylan Floro for assignment.

Well, that didn’t work out. Floro was acquired at the deadline to boost the Diamondbacks’ bullpen, but all he boosted was his ERA. He came to Arizona with a 2.06 mark, but he was awful in Arizona with a 9.37 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 15 appearances. Floro will likely see interest on the waiver wire, and will hit free agency if he goes unclaimed.
Randal Grichuk

ARI Center Fielder #15

Randal Grichuk hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs in a 15-8 loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

Grichuk hit a two-run homer in the seventh to make the score 13-4 Brewers, and an RBI single an inning later to make it 13-5. They still count, even if they had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Grichuk has done a solid job in 2024 — mostly against left-handed pitching — with a .285 average, 10 homers and .843 OPS over 235 at-bats.
Brandon Pfaadt

ARI Starting Pitcher #32

Brandon Pfaadt went just 1 2/3 innings while allowing eight runs in a loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

This was ugly. Not only did Pfaadt give up seven hits, he also issued three walks and didn’t strike out a single batter while throwing 58 pitches before leaving. The biggest blow was a grand slam by Willy Adames, but there were lots of troubling signs for the 25-year-old. It bumps his ERA up nearly half a run from 4.42 to 4.81, and it’s an unfortunate reminder that there’s a pretty low floor with Pfaadt. Start at your own risk when he’s back on the bump against the Brew Crew again Thursday in Milwaukee.
Brandon Hughes

ARI Relief Pitcher #56

Diamondbacks selected to contract of LHP Brandon Hughes from Triple-A Reno.

Hughes is added back to the MLB roster for the second time, and to say he wasn’t effective his last go round with the D-Backs is quite the understatement as seen in a 10.29 ERA and 2.14 WHIP in 14 innings. He’ll be low-leverage depth, and he takes the roster spot of Ryne Nelson.
Andrew Knizner

ARI Catcher #12

Diamondbacks designated C Andrew Knizner for assignment.

Knizner is now off the 40-man roster. It’s possible someone could put in a claim on the 29-year-old to add to their catching depths, but it’s just as likely he finishes the year in Triple-A while becoming a free agent at the end of the year.
