Emmanuel Rodriguez

MIN Center Fielder #90

Twins prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez aggravated his right thumb injury Wednesday and is going back on the Triple-A IL.

Rodriguez missed most of June, July and August because of the injury he sustained on a slide into second base three months ago. He joined Triple-A St. Paul on Sept. 2 and had since gone 5-for-23 with one homer. The 21-year-old might be banging down the door by now if not for his injuries. He’s a career .250/.422/.510 hitter in the minors, but he’s totaled just 230 games since debuting in 2021.
Byron Buxton

MIN Center Fielder #25

Twins activated Byron Buxton (hip) from the 10-day IL.

There have been a lot of stops and starts on Buxton’s rehab assignment as he worked his way back from a hip injury, but the veteran is finally back. In 90 games this season, the 30-year-old is hitting .275 with 16 home runs, 54 runs scored, 49 RBI, and six steals. He will return to a nearly everyday role in the Twins’ lineup and is just three games away from playing the most games in a season since 2017. Austin Martin was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.
Austin Martin

MIN Second Baseman #82

Twins optioned OF Austin Martin to Triple-A St. Paul.

The move comes with the news that the Twins will be bringing Byron Buxton (hip) off the 10-day injured list Friday. Martin has provided some versatility in 2024, but hasn’t really helped in fantasy with a .669 OPS in 152 at-bats.
Byron Buxton

MIN Center Fielder #25

The Twins will activate Byron Buxton (hip) off the 10-day injured list before Friday’s game against the Reds.

Buxton will be back after missing almost exactly a month with hip inflammation. The 30-year-old should be in the lineup close to every day for the final stretch, and fantasy managers are well aware of the upside he brings for the last two-plus weeks. Austin Martin has been optioned to Triple-A in the corresponding transaction.
Matt Wallner

MIN Right Fielder #38

Matt Wallner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the Twins’ 6-4 win over the Angels on Wednesday.

Wallner’s power is undeniable. This long ball was hit 110.3 MPH traveled an estimated 435 feet to left center field. It’s his second straight game with a homer as he’s worked his way up to second in the order against right-handed pitching. He’s also started against back-to-back lefties and is hitting too well – he has a .948 OPS on the season – to come out of the Twins’ lineup.
Jhoan Duran

MIN Relief Pitcher #59

Jhoan Duran allowed three hits and one run while striking out two Angels to earn the save on Wednesday.

This was not easy for Duran who’s been a bit more mortal than we’re used to seeing lately. The first two he faced reached before Nolan Schanuel hit an RBI single and stole second base to put the tying runs in scoring position. Duran dug deep to get out of the inning, but this is now four times Duran has let at least one run scored over his last eight appearances. Fantasy managers nor the Twins can afford that type of stress this time of year.
Zebby Matthews

MIN Starting Pitcher #52

Zebby Matthews allowed five hits and two runs with five strikeouts across 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision on Wednesday against the Angels.

It doesn’t look particularly easy right now for Matthews. He’s missing bats, but struggling to put hitters away. He’s throwing plenty of strikes, but consistently missing his spots. He’s finding his way out of jams, but giving up too many homers. It’s easy to forget he started the season in High-A when he forced the Twins’ hand and is getting meaningful innings in a pennant race. Yet, it’s incredibly frustrating to have such a short outing against the lowly Angels. He’s now allowed a homer in five of his six outings and sports an ugly 7.11 ERA, mostly due to one nine-run blow up. He’s lined up for a two-start week starting next Monday in Cleveland before heading to Boston.
Manuel Margot

MIN Center Fielder #13

Twins activated OF Manuel Margot from the 10-day injured list.

Margot missed the minimum 10 days with his groin strain. He figures to go back to starting in the outfield against left-handed pitchers.
Christian Vazquez

MIN Catcher #8

Twins activated C Christian Vázquez from the paternity list.

Vázquez is back after two days away. The Twins have yet to release their lineup, so it’s unclear whether he’s starting over Ryan Jeffers tonight.
Jair Camargo

MIN Catcher #85

Twins optioned C Jair Camargo to Triple-A St. Paul.

Camargo didn’t play in his two-day stint while Christian Vázquez was on the paternity list.
