San Diego

Perfect climate, great coastline and a city full of terrific restaurants, attractions and 70 miles of beaches -- what's not to like. The San Diego area boasts more than 90 golf courses, laid out among seaside settings, desert mountains or inland valleys. It is best known for the pair of great municipal courses at Torrey Pines, located in La Jolla just north of the city perched on the bluffs of Torrey Pines State Park.

Host of the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open, the South Course at Torrey Pines was also the site of Tiger Woods' epic 2008 U.S. Open playoff victory over Rocco Mediate. But it's hardly the only offering. Many say that Maderas doesn't take a back seat to any course when it comes to spectacular views, and Barona Creek, which sits on an Indian reservation, is one of the best casino courses in the United States.

There are also several resorts on the ocean, including the famous La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, where many of the major golf equipment manufacturers are also headquartered. And if you go to San Diego to play golf, be sure to visit some of the other sights as well, including its world famous zoo, Sea World and the Gaslamp District, where you will find scores of world-class restaurants, shops and cultural activities.
