Alexandre Sarr

WAS Center #20

Alex Sarr shot 6-of-8 from the field in Sunday’s loss to Toronto, amassing 15 points, three rebounds, four assists, one block, and three 3-pointers in 22 minutes.

After struggling mightily throughout Summer League play in July, Sarr dropped down early fantasy draft boards. However, he’ll have every opportunity to show what he can do for the Wizards, who are embarking on a rebuild. Sarr looked good on Sunday, starting alongside Kyle Kuzma in the frontcourt and shooting 75% from the field. Turnovers could be problematic throughout the season, and he had three on Sunday. However, Sarr is worth the risk for managers willing to punt turnovers or field-goal percentage.
Jordan Poole

WAS Shooting Guard #13

Jordan Poole finished Sunday’s loss to the Raptors with 16 points (5-of-9 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), one rebound, six assists, and two 3-pointers in 22 minutes.

After playing most of his minutes as a shooting guard last season, Poole will be the Wizards’ starting point guard in 2024-25. While Sunday’s preseason opener did not produce the desired result for the team, the Wizards were likely pleased with Poole’s performance. He shot better than 50% from the field, and zero turnovers countered the six assists. There will be hiccups, as Poole was a combo guard for each of his first four NBA seasons. However, the move to the point should boost his fantasy value, even if occasionally turnovers and shot selection may be an issue.
Jordan Poole

WAS Shooting Guard #13

Jordan Poole will enter the season as the Wizards’ starting point guard.

While the acquisition of Malcolm Brogdon led some to believe that he could fill the void left by Tyus Jones, Poole will assume the starting point guard role this season. While he can be a bit of an enigma on the court, Poole may be able to improve his production when not sharing the court with another playmaker. The two-man combination of Poole and Jones produced -11.1 points per 100 possessions, slightly better than the Poole/Kyle Kuzma duo (-11.8). While some fantasy managers will hesitate to trust Poole, fortune could favor the bold, especially in a punt turnovers build.
Leaky Black

WAS Small Forward #12

According to Joshua Robbins of The Athletic, the Wizards have signed Leaky Black and Jaylen Nowell to Exhibit 10 contracts.

Black and Nowell will be in training camp with the Wizards, and the Exhibit 10 designation guarantees them money should they be waived and then stick with the team’s G League affiliate for a certain amount of time. Even with Washington in a rebuild, neither Black nor Nowell will likely get the run needed to impact fantasy basketball.
Kira Lewis Jr.

WAS Point Guard #13

According to Joshua Robbins of The Athletic, the Wizards have signed Kira Lewis Jr. to an Exhibit 10 contract.

Lewis will be in training camp with the Wizards, facing long odds to make the opening night roster. Not only did Washington select Carlton Carrington Jr. with one of its two first-round picks in June, but the team also acquired Malcolm Brogdon from Portland as part of the Deni Avdija trade. The 13th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Lewis’ development was stunted due to an ACL tear suffered during the 2021-22 season. He split last season between New Orleans, Toronto, and Utah, appearing in 28 games.
Anthony Gill

WAS Power Forward #16

According to a report from ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, Washington is re-signing after four seasons with the team.

Gill averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game last season and isn’t likely to play a significant role in 2024-25 given the Wizards’ influx of young talent.
Carlton Carrington

WAS Point Guard

Carlton Carrington finished Saturday’s 91-79 win over Milwaukee with 13 points (5-of-14 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 35 minutes.

Despite Saturday’s game being Washington’s of summer league, the Wizards had their first-round pick shoulder a full workload. Bub played 35 of a possible 40 minutes and was highly active on the boards, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds while accumulating 13 points and five assists. Washington added Malcolm Brogdon via the Deni Avdija trade, and he should serve as a quality mentor to Carrington as he gets used to the NBA game. While he will not be an elite fantasy option immediately, Washington being in rebuild mode makes Carrington one of the more attractive rookies in fantasy basketball.
Carlton Carrington

WAS Point Guard

Carlton Carrington struggled with his shot on Thursday and contributed nine points (2-of-10 FGs), five rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and two triples against the Kings.

Bub hasn’t shot the ball well this summer, but this was the first game that he really struggled. He has been a consistent contributor of assists so far, but he finished with less than five dimes for the first time this summer in this game. Carrington is going to get the chance to work through mistakes during his rookie season, even if his shot isn’t falling. That may not play well for managers that are trying to be competitive in the field goal percentage category, but he should put up some fun numbers during his rookie year.
Kyshawn George

WAS Small Forward

Kyshawn George posted a full line on Thursday with 11 points (2-of-7 FGs), two rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks and one triple against the Kings.

George’s strongest skill entering the draft was his 3-point shooting, and he has been an effective deep-range threat thus far this summer. He only added one 3-pointer in this game, and he is now averaging 1.8 triples through four games. He was able to contribute three “stocks” in this game, which was encouraging to see. He should see plenty of minutes as a rookie on a tanking team, but it’s unlikely that he contributes much in fantasy in year one, especially in category leagues.
Alexandre Sarr

WAS Center

Alex Sarr struggled with his shot once again on Thursday and finished with two points (1-of-6 FGs), nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in a 71-69 win over Sacramento.

After shooting 0-of-15 in their last game, Sarr was at least able to knock down a shot in this one. However, it only ended up being one make. While the scoring production hasn’t been there for Sarr often this summer, he has been able to contribute in other ways. He was drafted as a long-term project on offense that could make an impact defensively immediately, which has been the case this summer. He has plenty of upside to contribute in fantasy as a rookie, but he needs to start shooting the ball more efficiently for that to happen.
