Shares of the software platform Palantir Technologies (PLTR) rose more than 11% Friday after the company announced that it would list on the Nasdaq later this month and expects to be eligible to join the Nasdaq 100 index. Investors pounced on the move, pushing the stock to a record high and setting Palantir up to be the best-performing S&P stock so far this year. Shares have climbed nearly 280% year to date, surpassing AI darling Nvidia's gains of almost 190%. The inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 index would give the stock a higher profile and prompt investors who use the gauge as a benchmark to purchase Palantir shares to reflect the index. https://lnkd.in/e9V4Ct57

We’re less than two weeks removed from Donald Trump’s second presidential election win, and investors, economists, and citizens alike are still trying to figure out what it all means. Stocks, which surged following the election, have given up almost all of those gains. For economists, the equivalent action to the stock market’s decisively indecisive action is to simply widen the aperture. As Bank of America put it, we could see anything from 3% GDP growth — or a recession.

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped billionaire backer Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy — who ran for the Republican candidacy in the 2024 election cycle — to lead the new "Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)" in his incoming administration. The agency will be tasked with slashing excessive regulations and cutting wasteful government spending. Columbia Law School professor John Coffee cautions that Musk's appointment could present conflicts of interest, as the Tesla CEO may be in violation of "a number of federal statutes" due to his varied business interests. "They're going to have quite a lot of impact," Coffee tells Yahoo Finance, though he notes the proposed department won't be an official agency until Congress approves its creation. 📺 The Walt Disney Company's box office magic is back, and that's taking its stock to one of the happiest places on Earth for investors. 📺 Shares of Disney surged 9% on Thursday following a solid quarterly earnings beat and upbeat long-term guidance. The company's ticker page was the number one most active on the Yahoo Finance platform. The advance takes Disney's stock up about 23% year to date, out-performing the 16% gain for the Dow. "I do think that the focus on raising the bar on quality and delivering, really, I think the best content in the industry is an indication that the magic is back at Disney", Disney CFO Hugh Johnston told me. The financial performance of Disney's entertainment business stole the show, no pun intended.
