Though the legendary "Project Runway" mentor Tim Gunn needs little introduction, his story does. Gunn wasn't always the celebrity we know him to be today; he was a career educator for 29 years. Gunn shared with "Living Not So Fabulously" hosts David & John Auten-Schneider that teaching is more of a calling than a job. He identified as a "pauper educator," with more of a focus on serving students than his own personal finances. Though that is surely noble, it left him living paycheck to paycheck. “I really did think if I lose my job, what am I going to do? Move in with my sister?” Gunn said. Shares of the software platform Palantir Technologies (PLTR) rose more than 11% Friday after the company announced that it would list on the Nasdaq later this month and expects to be eligible to join the Nasdaq 100 index. Investors pounced on the move, pushing the stock to a record high and setting Palantir up to be the best-performing S&P stock so far this year. Shares have climbed nearly 280% year to date, surpassing AI darling Nvidia's gains of almost 190%. We’re less than two weeks removed from Donald Trump’s second presidential election win, and investors, economists, and citizens alike are still trying to figure out what it all means. Stocks, which surged following the election, have given up almost all of those gains. For economists, the equivalent action to the stock market’s decisively indecisive action is to simply widen the aperture. As Bank of America put it, we could see anything from 3% GDP growth — or a recession.

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped billionaire backer Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy — who ran for the Republican candidacy in the 2024 election cycle — to lead the new "Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)" in his incoming administration. The agency will be tasked with slashing excessive regulations and cutting wasteful government spending. Columbia Law School professor John Coffee cautions that Musk's appointment could present conflicts of interest, as the Tesla CEO may be in violation of "a number of federal statutes" due to his varied business interests. "They're going to have quite a lot of impact," Coffee tells Yahoo Finance, though he notes the proposed department won't be an official agency until Congress approves its creation.
