Ben Johnson has found his top two coordinators.

Johnson hired former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen to become his next defensive coordinator on Sunday afternoon. Allen was fired by the Saints in the middle of his third season leading the franchise this past season.

He then hired 28-year-old Declan Doyle to become his next offensive coordinator. Doyle, who worked with Allen as an offensive assistant in New Orleans, spent the past two seasons as the tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos.

Mike Macdonald has his next offensive coordinator. The team struck a deal with Klint Kubiak on Sunday afternoon. Kubiak spent this past season in the same role with the New Orleans Saints, though he's been interviewing across the league after the Saints split with head coach Dennis Allen.

The Seahawks will mark Kubiak's third run as an offensive coordinator in the league.

Former Stanford head coach David Shaw is one of the candidates being considered for Ben Johnson's offensive coordinator with the Bears, according to several reports

Shaw, 52, was a senior personnel executive with the Broncos this season. He took that position after stepping down from Stanford, where he was the head coach for 12 years. Shaw was previously one of the candidates the Bears interviewed for their head coach opening.

Other coaches Chicago is interviewing are Broncos tight end coach Declan Doyle, Titans QB coach Bo Hardegree and Cardinals QB coach Israel Woolfork, reports the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is understandably a man in demand after Washington's run to the NFC championship game.

The Saints, who have the lone head coach opening available, want to interview him. However, Kingsbury isn't certain he wants to talk to the Saints. For now, he's focused on the Commanders' season, reports NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill.

Meanwhile, the Saints also want to talk to the other OC involved in Sunday's NFC title game, the Eagles' Kellen Moore, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is set to interview next week after his initial meeting had to be rescheduled due to severe weather.

The Lions are promoting from within to replace Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator. Kelvin Sheppard is moving up from linebackers coach to oversee Dan Campbell's defense, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofalo.

Campbell made it clear after the season that he believed Glenn and former offensive coordinator could be replaced from the current staff. While outside candidates may have been considered, Sheppard was viewed as the favorite to take over the DC role.

Sheppard, 37, has been with the Lions since 2021, first coaching outside linebackers then overseeing the entire unit for the past three seasons. He played eight seasons in the NFL.

New Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer may already have his defensive coordinator lined up. Former Bears coach Matt Eberflus is a top candidate for the position, reports ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Eberflus was on the Cowboys staff from 2011-17, first as linebackers coach then adding passing game coordinator responsibilities in 2016. He left to become the Colts' defensive coordinator for four seasons before being hired by the Bears in 2022.

Chicago fired Eberflus in late November with a 4–8 record. He was 14–32 overall as Bears head coach.

The Cowboys have a new head coach. Brian Schottenheimer is being promoted from offensive coordinator to the top job, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Cowboys officially announced the hiring and Schottenheimer will be introduced at a press conference on Monday. He'll sign a four-year contract, according to Rapoport.

While Schottenheimer isn't the sizzling name many fans may have hoped for, he's the kind of hire team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has consistently made. Schottenheimer joins the likes of Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy as coaches that weren't big names but appeared to fit whatever Jones wants in a head coach.

Schottenheimer has previously been an offensive coordinator with the Jets, Rams, Georgia and Seahawks. He was a passing game coordinator with the Jaguars before joining the Cowboys as an offensive analyst before becoming Dallas' OC for the past two seasons.

Antwaan Randle El is following Ben Johnson from the Lions to the Bears.

Randle El, who's been with Detroit for the past four seasons, will be an assistant head coach on Johnson's staff in addition to coaching wide receivers in Chicago, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen is reportedly still in talks to become the Jacksonville Jaguars' new head coach — a day after reportedly taking himself out of the running for the job.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that Coen had been speaking with the Jaguars in person about the open position, just days after agreeing to a huge contract extension. The extension would have reportedly made Coen one of the highest-paid coordinators in the league.

Three years ago, when Ben Johnson was elevated to be the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, he got a direct challenge from Aaron Glenn, the team’s defensive coordinator.

Bring it.

In every head-to-head between the offense and defense, from training camp to a midweek practice, bring it all. Bring the creativity. Bring the trick plays. Bring everything Johnson could conjure up.

Mainly bring the competitiveness.

Not only would it help make each unit better — and help Detroit go 15-2 this season and secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs — it would make Johnson and Glenn better, especially when they eventually became head coaches.

“It’s always iron sharpens iron,” Johnson told Yahoo Sports this season of Glenn’s attitude. “He has really challenged me to stay cutting edge, attack him. We’ve gone back and forth during training camp and in the springtime, we’ll make some adjustments and he’ll make some adjustments. It’s just constant competition between the two of us.”

On Monday, Johnson, 38, became the new head coach of the Chicago Bears. On Wednesday, Glenn, 52, took over the New York Jets.

Trent Baalke is out in Jacksonville after all.

The Jaguars announced on Wednesday afternoon that they had split with their general manager amid a search for a new head coach.

Baalke has been with the Jaguars for the last four seasons. The team reached the playoffs just once under his watch, and they are fresh off a 4-13 campaign. The team fired coach Doug Pederson earlier this month, too, though Khan said at the time that he wanted to keep Baalke — as he didn't want to completely overhaul the franchise. Doing so, he said then, would be "like shooting yourself in the foot."

Now, though, it seems the full reset is what Khan is going for.

Aaron Glenn seemingly spent time with every NFL team along his playing and coaching journey.

But a stop with the Detroit Lions is what ultimately led to his shot to be an NFL head coach.

Glenn, after a successful run as the Lions' defensive coordinator, will reportedly be hired by the New York Jets, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

For decades, the Lions were practically a dead end. It speaks to the organization that general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell have built that the Lions are now one of the model franchises in the NFL. That's a big reason Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson were two of the most sought after names for head-coaching vacancies this offseason. Suddenly, everyone wants to replicate what the Lions are building, after generations of Detroit being a laughingstock.

"He's a young quarterback by birth certificate, not by the tape," Fangio, the Eagles' defensive coordinator said on Tuesday. "You know, the guy is playing extremely well. You can tell how much they think he's playing so good by the volume of their offense and the things they trust him to do. He's come through for them in a big way, and he's tough to handle."

As for Daniels' performance in his rookie season, which saw him throw for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, plus 567 passing yards and four touchdowns in two playoff games, Fangio was asked if he'd rate Daniels as the best rookie quarterback ever.

"You know, probably, yeah," he said.

The Ravens cornerback is one of many out there rooting against a Chiefs' Super Bowl three-peat.

The Cowboys interviewed their own offensive coordinator for their head coaching position on Tuesday. It was a long one, too.

Well, that was quick. The Patriots are hiring Josh McDaniels to be their next offensive coordinator after his interview with the team earlier on Tuesday. It'll mark his third stint with the team in the role.

New Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel interviewed Josh McDaniels today for their offensive coordinator job, according to Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz. McDaniels, who was the Patriots' offensive coordinator in New England from 2006-08 and 2012-2021, is now considered the favorite for the job.

Any idea that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are getting special treatment from officials, at least according to Mike Pereira, is just an “absolute myth.”

Cooper Kupp wants to play football again next season. But whether he returns to the Los Angeles Rams, he said on Monday, isn't up to him.

"I feel like I've got a lot of good football left in me," Kupp said, via ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "I'll be playing football next year. That much I know ... Obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don't know what that's going to look like."

Kupp, who was the subject of trade rumors before the deadline this past season, has two years left on his deal with the Rams. He had five catches for 61 yards in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Since the first interview in Jacksonville went well, Robert Saleh is headed back to talk with the Jaguars about their open job later this week.

The Jaguars are also expected to meet with Raiders DC Patrick Graham and Buccaneers OC Liam Coen this week, too.

The Cowboys continue their search to replace Mike McCarthy. Frazier, who was the Bills' defensive coordinator for years, spent last season as an assistant with the Seahawks.

The Indianapolis Colts have their next defensive coordinator. The Colts are hiring ex-Bengals DC Lou Anarumo, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Anarumo spent the last six seasons with the Bengals, but they fired in him earlier this month after missing the playoffs.

The Chicago Bears have their next head coach. The franchise announced on Tuesday that former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is their guy. The move came just a f days after the Lions were knocked out of the playoffs.

Johnson, fresh off a dominant run as the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator, was one of the most sought-after candidates this coaching cycle. He spent the last three seasons in that role with the Lions, and helped them to back-to-back playoff appearances — which is something the franchise hasn't seen in decades.

Brian Schottenheimer's name hasn't been mentioned often in this head-coaching cycle. Tennessee State coach Eddie George has created more buzz.

But the betting market seems to believe Schottenheimer will be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Schottenheimer suddenly became the favorite in the market for the next Cowboys head coach at DraftKings. He's a pretty large favorite too, at -250 odds (bet $250 to win $100). Kellen Moore, who was the favorite, went back to +250 odds.

Schottenheimer has been on the Cowboys' staff the past three seasons, the last two as offensive coordinator. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always put a priority on coaches he is familiar with, so that fits.

But it would be a surprising hire, and likely not to be very popular among Cowboys fans.

As Lamar Jackson spoke Sunday night, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback kept smacking his hands together as though he were awake, but trying to snap himself out of a bad dream.

"I tried to squeeze the ball, it slipped"…SMACK ... "out of my hand."

"Tonight, the turnovers, we can’t have that s***"… SMACK …"you know?"

"It's hold on to the f***ing ball. I’m sorry for my language”… SMACK …"but this s*** annoying. I'm tired of this s***."

It seemed like a momentary physical tick born out of angry energy. Or disappointment. Maybe some combination of disbelief and frustration. And it was unquestionably fitting. Almost any of those emotions — and maybe all of them — painted the proper picture of the Ravens after a 27-25 AFC playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills that was nothing if not a summary of mistakes and missed chances in the divisional round.

Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is getting a second interview with the Saints for their head coaching opening, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will also get a second interview with New Orleans, according to eporter Mike Triplett.

Kafka first interviewed with the Saints on Jan. 9, while Weaver spoke with team officials on Jan. 8.
