How CEOs are talking about tariffs and M&A on earnings calls
As Big Tech companies release earnings results, the Transcript author and Mwango Capital founder Erick Mokaya joins Josh Lipton on Asking for a Trend to recap the big themes executives are talking about on earnings calls. "There's been a meaningful shift in CEO confidence going into this year, but what happened is that confidence has run into a bit of trouble in the past two weeks, especially as the tariffs are being implemented," Mokaya says, explaining, "what you're seeing in companies that are a little worried about the implications." He adds that most companies have "made sure that they're more resilient than last time. So, [the tariff] hit may be huge, but it's not as significant as it was in 2016." When asked about other opportunities for executives under Trump 2.0, Mokaya says, "It feels like they were tired a lot in the past given the past regime that was there, but now this regime kind of promises a lot of changes in terms of regulation and all. They're very excited to do more [merger and acquisition] M&A this year." To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Asking for a Trend here.
