How to find opportunistic options trades amid risks

Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. In this clip from Stocks in Translation, tastytrade Founder and tastylive CEO Tom Sosnoff, joins Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre and Producer Sydnee Fried to discuss opportunistic options trades while managing risk in our “Trade This Way” segment, presented in partnership with tastytrade. Blikre and Sosnoff analyze two real-world examples, breaking down the risks and rewards of an options trade on Tesla (TSLA) or NVIDIA (NVDA). “These are the two most actively traded equities with respect to options,” Sosnoff explains. “Tesla trades three to five million contracts a day. NVIDIA has been trading five to seven million contracts a day.” Both companies’ stocks are down right now, which poses a level of risk when trading.Sosnoff’s advice when navigating trading companies like this: start small. “It is very difficult to manage something that you can’t control,” Sosnoff says. “If you sell a put, for example, in Tesla or you sell a put in NVIDIA, that’s the decision you can control. You do that based on subject price extreme, you do that based on implied volatility, you do that based on lots of reasons. However, if that stock starts to go against you, now you get concerned. The only thing that everybody can protect themselves on, is by staying small to start with because that is your best risk mitigation. Just stay small.” To hear more of Sosnoff’s thoughts, watch the full interview here. The basics of a call option contract

Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. In this clip for Stocks in Translation, sponsored by tastytrade, Sean McLaughlin, Allstar Charts’ chief options strategist, joins Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre to break down the basics of options trading. Blikre and McLaughlin explain the fundamentals of a call option contract, which is a “financial contract that grants the buyer the right but not the obligation to buy a stock at a predetermined price within a specified timeframe.” McLaughlin highlights the key difference between a call buyer and a stock buyer. “The advantage a call buyer has over a stock buyer is that a call buyer's risk is limited to the premium he paid for that call,” McLaughlin continues. “The risk is defined to the premium they pay. So this stock can go to zero overnight, but all they're [going to] lose is the premium they paid for that call.” The video also shares McLaughlin’s common strategies and tips for managing volatility in the options market. Understanding the basics of options trading

Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. In this clip for Stocks in Translation, sponsored by tastytrade, Jessica Inskip, Director of Investor Research at Stockbrokers.com, joins Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre to explain the basics of options. Simply put, an option is a contract between a buyer and a seller. “The buyer is paying a premium for the rights to execute upon that contract. The seller receives that premium,’ explains Inskip. Blikre and Inskip break down the key components of an option into four parts: quantity—one contract typically represents 100 shares; product—the security being traded; strike price—the agreed-upon price; and timeframe—the expiration date. When considering calls and puts, it’s important to remember, “Anytime you hear the word long, just like with stock, we think purchased. Short, we think sold. Call, the right to buy. Put, the right to sell,” says Inskip. The risks and rewards of options trading

Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. In this clip from Stocks in Translation, Scott Bauer, CEO of Prosper Trading Academy, joins Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre to discuss the risks and benefits of trading options in our “Trade This Way” segment, presented in partnership with tastytrade. “Every option comes with intrinsic value and extrinsic value,” says Bauer. Simply put, an option has real value along with an additional premium—known as time decay—factored into its price. “Investors need to be aware that options are a wasting asset. That doesn't mean that's a bad thing, but they are a wasting asset and lose value over time.” However, it’s not all negative. As Bauer explains, options offer “incredible” upside. An investor “could take a position in a particular stock, an index, or the overall market at a fraction of the cost of actually buying or selling that stock outright.” Blikre and Bauer then analyze a real-world example, breaking down the risks and rewards of an options trade on Nvidia (NVDA) at $140. 'Too tight' monetary policy contributing to economic slowdown woes

Concerns about a potential recession are rising on Wall Street as economic data falls short of expectations, pointing toward an economic slowdown. Out Friday morning, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index — the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge — for the month of January saw core PCE, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, increase 0.3% month-over-month while rising 2.6% higher annually. Neil Dutta, head of economic research at Renaissance Macro Research, joins Catalysts to discuss these issues, clarifying his perspective on the drivers behind the slowdown. "I think it's primarily a function of monetary policy being too tight. I don't think people are pulling back signing contracts on new and existing homes because they're worried about tariffs," Dutta tells Madison Mills. Dutta also notes slowing labor market trends, contributing to weaker income growth. Despite these concerns, Dutta doesn't foresee an immediate recession: "I think recession risks are rising, but I think once the Fed [Federal Reserve] gets on the right side of the eight ball, you know, those recession risks will decline."
