Nintendo Switch 2 remains the fastest-selling console ever in the United States
We already knew that the Nintendo Switch 2 was the fastest-selling console ever in the United States. Now, new sales data from market research company Circana confirms that momentum is carrying on past the system's June launch, as the system surpassed 2 million units sold in the United States alone last month.
That's an impressive feat for a new gaming platform that's only been around for under three months. It also means that the Nintendo Switch 2 is outpacing its predecessor in terms of units sold. Plus, I confirmed that the console is still the fastest-selling of all time in the United States.
How well did Nintendo Switch 2 sell in July 2025?
And what are its best-selling games?
Every month on Bluesky, Senior Director Mat Piscatella of Circana shares detailed data about how the video game market performed the month prior. We learned through this deluge of information that Nintendo Switch 2 had sold 2 million consoles in the United States as of July 31.
Piscatella went on to confirm that this success means that the new console is selling 75% more units than the original Nintendo Switch did in its first two months on the market. Overall, $384 million was spent on gaming hardware in July, which is 21% higher than July 2024.
Another post confirmed that Nintendo Switch 2 is the best-selling video game hardware of the month and all of 2025. The latest official data from Nintendo indicated that it had sold 5.82 million units worldwide as of June 30. Piscatella also affirmed to me on Bluesky that Nintendo Switch 2 "remains slightly ahead of PlayStation 4" as the fast-selling console ever in the United States.
You're also probably wondering how well Nintendo Switch 2 games sold in July. While Nintendo doesn't share digital game sales data with Circana, Donkey Kong Bananza still managed to be the third-best-selling game of the month, behind EA Sports College Football 26 and the EA Sports MVP Bundle.
The following ten games were the best-selling of the month across Nintendo's current platforms:
Donkey Kong Bananza
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4
Mario Kart 8
Minecraft
Mario Kart World
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Hogwarts Legacy
It'll be interesting to see how this momentum continues in August's data. It may be a quieter month for the system, as Nintendo's new games this month were the digital-only Drag X Drive and a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. That said, a version of Madden NFL 26 did come out for the system.
Regardless, it's clear that the Nintendo Switch 2 is still doing incredibly well in the United States as other video game consoles on the market are increasing in price.
