Rotoworld Player News

  • WAS Defensive End #92

Armstrong signed a three-year, $33 million contract two offseasons ago and the Commanders are not tied to him in 2026, where they’ll be able to save $3.3 million by releasing him or more by using the post-June 1 designation. It’s a devastating injury for the Commanders as Armstrong was by far the best player on the defense this year, with a 77.6 PFF defensive grade in 239 snaps. Entering his age-29 season in 2026, Armstrong is probably playing well enough to stay, but the Commanders will likely look to upgrade the room around him.
  • WAS Quarterback #5
Quinn has seldom been clear about the health of his QB1. He beat around the bush for two weeks while Daniels worked through a groin injury, and will likely play the status of his QB1 close to the vest for most of this week. The proof will be in the practice report, which won’t be released until Thursday since the Commanders play on Monday night, but fantasy managers counting on Daniels in Week 8 would be wise to stash backup Marcus Mariota on their bench in case he is ruled out late Sunday or on game day. If he is unable to play in Week 8, it would mark the third game Daniels has missed this season.
  • WAS Defensive End #92
Armstrong, who is seeking a second opinion on his injury, has been playing well for the Commanders this season, totaling 24 tackles, seven TFLs, and 5.5 sacks in just seven games. His loss is a tough blow to a Commanders defense that has been among the league’s worst through the first month and a half, as they currently rank 21st in points allowed and have allowed the sixth-most yards. We’ll likely get a more definite timeline on Armstrong’s absence in the coming days but it sounds like he could be looking at a multi-week absence.
  • WAS Tight End #86
The Commanders’ receiver corps today was so rough that DaRon Bland was covering Ertz at times, but the veteran tight end pulled in a goal-line catch in the first quarter and added a 27-yard catch-and-run in garbage time to keep the overall line looking solid. Ertz could be on the low-end TE1 line again in Week 8 against the Chiefs pending the health of Terry McLaurin, Jayden Daniels and Deebo Samuel. Great, another team who has so many hurt players we have little idea what to forecast after the game.
  • WAS Wide Receiver #12
Are we so bereft of ideas that we need to bring back the antiquated notion of Robbie Chosen? Kliff Kingsbury said yes. Chosen only played 33 snaps to Luke McCaffrey’s 36, but out-targeted the second-year receiver by two as McCaffrey bageled. Even if Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin are both out again in Week 8, it’d be hard to recommend Chosen in fantasy leagues.
  • WAS Wide Receiver #19
He managed a 44-yard catch for Washington’s longest completion of the day, and Moore continues to handily see the most snaps amongst Commanders non-Deebo/McLaurin receivers. The only problem is that unless he runs into a touchdown, it absolutely does not matter for fantasy purposes. The 32-year-old will be a desperation FLEX in Week 8 against the Chiefs.
  • WAS Wide Receiver #83
He was second amongst Commanders wideouts with 46 snaps, but the Cowboys simply begged someone on the Commanders to actually be worth respecting against man coverage today and nobody stepped up. Lane has no path to FLEX viability if he’s going to give us this little against Dallas’ pass defense, and that means he’s probably a year away from being a real fantasy football factor.
  • WAS Quarterback #5
Daniels’ Week 8 status is firmly up in the air following his early exit in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. Quinn said Daniels pushed to go back in the game, which could be seen as a good sign, but we’re more interested in what the MRI reveals at this point. Daniels already missed two games due to a groin injury earlier this season, and could be looking at another multi-game absence if the MRI shows any kind of damage to the second-year QB. Now sitting at 3-4 on the season, the Commanders enter a tough stretch of games with the Chiefs on tap for Week 8. If Daniels is unable to go, Marcus Mariota would be in line to make his third start of the season.
  • WAS Running Back #36
He only played nine snaps to Jeremy McNichols’ 24, but managed to plunge in on a Marcus Mariota-led third quarter drive to get a touchdown. Rodriguez remains off the fantasy radar until he actually makes a move on “Bill” for more of the early-down duties, but he’s run well in limited samples this year.
  • WAS Running Back #22
Ugly. The Commanders simply faced a much different Cowboys pass defense than most teams have this season by virtue of strolling into the game without their top three wideouts. “Bill” never had a chance to get untracked, ultimately losing a lot of playing time in a blowout to Chris Rodriguez, who actually managed a touchdown in garbage time. We don’t have major concerns about Croskey-Merritt’s workload, and he did manage to avoid fumbling, but he’ll be more of a low-end RB2 play against the Chiefs in Week 8.
