Pick your handle: WhatsApp preparing reservation queue for usernames
WhatsApp is preparing to introduce usernames in 2026, with a reservation feature currently being tested in a beta version of the app, according to tech industry media reports. The benefit is that once you are contacted by your username, you don't need to share your phone number, which reduces the risk of it ending up with scam callers.
