  • Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell unveiled a $6.25 billion donation to supplement new savings accounts for young children passed into law earlier this year. Dell's donation translates to $250 in starter money for about 25 million "Trump accounts" for families in low- and middle-income areas. This private money will be in addition to $1,000 in federal dollars authorized in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for newborn children as part of an overall program that is set to begin accepting contributions next July. Dell and his wife, Susan, have long been champions of the program. At an event earlier this year, Trump even credited the businessman with bringing the idea for these accounts to him. In a social media posting, Dell called it a "very special moment" and “an investment in America’s kids” as he urged other companies to do more to support the program. Read more: yhoo.it/4asMqQz

  • High borrowing costs, cautious consumers and the Trump administration’s trade war are weighing on earnings for the smallest businesses while owners’ optimism fell to a six-month low in October. The number of Subchapter V cases is rising faster than the overall rate for Chapter 11 bankruptcies, which businesses and wealthy individuals typically use to restructure their debts. Year to date through November, Subchapter V cases increased more than 8% to 2,221, compared to the same period last year, Epiq data show. At the same time, Chapter 11 petitions are up about 1% to a little more than 6,000. Epiq collects information from the federal courts on the various types of bankruptcies filed every day in the US. • Billionaires Michael and Susan Dell pledged $6.25 billion Tuesday to provide 25 million American children under 10 an incentive to claim the new investment accounts for children created as part of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending legislation. The historic gift has little precedent, with few single charitable commitments in the past 25 years exceeding $1 billion, much less multiple billions. Announced on GivingTuesday, the Dells believe it’s the largest single private commitment made to US children. It is also unusual in that it will operate through investment accounts set up by the US Department of the Treasury that will be managed by private companies. Dubbed “ Trump Accounts, ” the program has not yet launched but was passed into law on July 4 as part of the president's signature legislation. Read more: yhoo.it/4ouFzcO

Amazon released a new AI chip called Trainium 3 on Tuesday at Invent as the broader tech industry looks to challenge NVIDIA's dominance. Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP of compute and machine learning David Brown told me that "diversity of chips in the AI market is a good thing" and left open the possibility that OpenAI could eventually use its custom chips (the ChatGPT developer recently inked a $38 billion deal with AWS to use Nvidia's GPUs). Nvidia is the world's most valuable company, and its chips have been the foundation of the AI boom. More in my latest for Yahoo Finance: https://lnkd.in/e2V7tXhh

  • OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told employees that the company was declaring a “code red” effort to improve the quality of ChatGPT and delaying other products as a result, according to an internal memo viewed by The Wall Street Journal. Altman said OpenAI had more work to do on the day-to-day experience of its chatbot, including improving personalization features for users, increasing its speed and reliability, and allowing it to answer a wider range of questions. The companywide memo is the most decisive indication yet of the pressure OpenAI is facing from competitors that have narrowed the startup’s lead in the AI race. https://lnkd.in/eX3u4NsZ

  • SoftBank Group Corp. founder Masayoshi Son said he wouldn’t have sold off Nvidia shares if his company had unlimited money to bankroll its next investments in artificial intelligence, which include a big bet on OpenAI. Son, addressing for the first time the surprise November disclosure that SoftBank had unloaded its entire stake in the world’s most valuable company, also slammed talk of an AI investment bubble. The Japanese company simply needed to raise capital to fund projects including data center construction, he told a forum in Tokyo Monday. Read more: yhoo.it/48xTfOj

  • NVIDIA has invested $2 billion in chip design software maker Synopsys Inc as part of an expanded multi-year tie-up to jointly develop new tools for designing products across industries using its artificial intelligence technology. The deal, unveiled on Monday, would make Nvidia the seventh largest shareholder in Synopsys, according to LSEG data, adding to its slew of circular AI partnerships in recent months that have sparked worries of a bubble in the industry. The world's most valuable firm has struck deals ranging from as much as a $100 billion investment in ChatGPT parent OpenAI to a $5 billion stake in Intel. Read more: yhoo.it/4oqUTqQ
