The United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday, with U.S. President Donald Trump announcing “major combat operations” aimed at dismantling the country’s military capabilities and nuclear program, with an objective to eliminate “imminent threats” posed by the Iranian regime.

Iran retaliated by launching ballistic missiles and drones toward Israel and U.S. bases in the region. Air defence systems were activated across multiple countries, and regional airspace disruptions followed.

Iranian officials reported civilian casualties, including claims of a deadly strike on a girls’ school, while U.S. Central Command said it was reviewing reports of civilian harm.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is currently in India, expressed Canada's support for the U.S. from Mumbai. Carney said his government backed the United States' action to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Meanwhile, Bloc and NDP leaders voiced concern over escalation and civilian risk. Toronto Police announced an increased presence around consulates and places of worship as tensions ripple globally.
