Greensboro man loses almost half his body weight with Cone Health's Healthy Weight & Wellness Program | 2 Your Well-Being
It's estimated 80% of people will go on a diet sometime in their lifetime. Every year, about 44% of Americans have the goal of losing weight and go on a diet. The roller coaster of weight loss takes an emotional, physical, and mental toll. What happens when what you're doing just doesn't work?
Wesley Nicholson knows those feelings. He has struggled with his weight for as long as he can remember. He even had weight loss surgery. It helped for a few years, and then he was right back where he started.
"This was when I was over 500 pounds," said Wesley.
As he looked through pictures over the years, he says it wasn't until he got involved with the Cone Health Healthy Weight and Wellness Program that things really started to change.
"They encourage you, they give you the steps, the tools to work with," said Wesley.
The Cone Health Healthy Weight and Wellness Program helps children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with obesity.
"We get their weight history. We wanna see what their background is when they land here, what kind of issues they've had in the past with their weight, genetic predisposition, any medical comorbidities that are weight related, and then we look at what they've tried already, what has failed, what has worked, and then they come to us, we do metabolic testing on every patient," said Dr. Karen Bowen, Cone Health.
'When I got under 400 pounds, that was one goal. When I got to 350, that was another goal. To get down to my high school back here in '98, I was weighing 325 playing football, so to get back to that, I was like, mm, ok," said Wesley.
Wesley works out at home, walks 10 thousand steps at work, and eats better. He and his wife help keep each other accountable.
"You just take it day by day, and I think a lot of times people are looking at where they wanna be by looking at people in magazines or TV or where their success is, but they didn't get there overnight. You take each day of how to eat better, how to walk," said Wesley.
