  • Analyst Report: Dominion Energy Inc

Dominion Energy has regulated electric and natural gas utility operations in 13 states. The company generates, transmits, and distributes electricity and has retail and wholesale operations. Dominion's portfolio consists of about 30 GW of generation capacity, 58,000 miles of electric distribution lines, and 6,800 miles of electric transmission lines in Virginia and North Carolina and 19,000 distribution lines in South Carolina. Currently, electric service is provided to 3.6 million customers, with natural gas provided to 500,000 customers in South Carolina. Revenues in 2025 were about $16.5 billion, of which 72% was from DEV. The company operates five nuclear generation sites, and Dominion's fuel mix is 41% nuclear, 44% natural gas, 9% coal, and 6% renewable sources. To change this mix, Dominion is developing renewable sources including solar power. However, it does not expect to achieve net-zero emissions until 2050, in line with peers heavily reliant on coal. The company underwent a business review that ended in March 2024. As a result, Dominion increased its asset sales. In 2023 and 2024, the company sold its LNG operations, three gas distribution companies, and an interest in its Virginia wind farm. These divestitures followed the sale of pipeline assets in 2022. Dominion's market cap is $54.8 billion, and the stock is a component of the S&P 500.
