Hard Core Computer Science
Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2012This is an excellent computer science book. If you need to learn about the first steps in compiling, and you already undertand finite state automata and grammars, then this is the book!

Dust jacket / outer cover was missing while it was on advertised picture
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2025While delivered fast, and the overall state of the book was perfectly fine, missing the outer cover is quite a miss for me. I would have expected it to be pictured in its actual state, but I now realise that the picture apparently was just an example.

Computer Science
Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2008The book, Theory of Parsing, Translation and Compiling, by Alfred V. Aho, and Jeffrey D. Ullman, is intended for a senior or graduate course in compiling theory. It is a theoretical treatment of a practical computer science subject. Since computer science is an ever changing area of study, this book emphasizes ideas, rather than specific application details. The algorithms and concepts presented in the book should survive to new generations of computer technology, programs and systems. Numerous examples are given, with specific context, rather than on the large complicated contexts normally found in implementations, even in cases where the theoretical ideas are difficult to understand in isolation.

Very pleased. Fast but surprised that the book didn’t come with pictured jacket cover.
Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2022Parsing for compilation is like model building and topology. Therefore, I wished to find analogies and use of the “double turnstile” symbol.
