Overview

By utilizing the latest in available CT scanning technology, Jesse Garant & Associates is the only private company within North America that utilizes industry leading Industrial CT Scanning equipment that can guarantee scan results to customers within .0004”/10 micron. Case specific to the micro industry, results can be further guaranteed on individual small components to .00015”/2-3 micron. Once the initial scan is performed, the developed dataset can be used to work in conjunction with one or a combination of A-la-Cart options to obtain the required results.

FAQ

What is CT scanning?

Industrial CT (Computer Tomography) scanning is a process which utilizes x-ray equipment to produce 3D representations of components both externally and internally. In its basic form industrial ct scanning is similar to a medical cat scan, only now we are using the ct technology to scan various industrial components instead of the human body.

There are many advantages to using CT scanning over traditional techniques such as CMM’s, or 3d laser scanners. Some of the main points include, lower cost since time is greatly reduced. Internal complex features can be precisely measured without destructive testing. And the parts are scan in a free state environment with no fixturing applying stresses which could damage delicate part or display warping that is not present in the part.

Does the part heat up?

No.

Does the scan leave residual radiation in the part?

No.

What type of fixturing is required?

The fixtures used are pieces of expanded polystyrene. The parts are typically placed on or within the expanded polystyrene. This type of fixturing allows for an inspection of the part in it natural position, without the induced stresses that clamping fixtures produce.

How much does a scan cost?

Each part is different, and different analyses are required. To obtain a free quote, you can contact us and we will be glad to discuss the details of the analysis that is best suited for your needs.

What viewing software do I need on my computer to view the CT dataset?

A free viewer is given with the dataset. Depending on the analysis completed, you may get one or both of the following software viewers; Volume Graphics or Calypso Viewer.

How long does a scan take?

The average scan time for cone beam system is typically 45mins and the average scan time for the line beam system is typically 5 hours. Longer scans may be required to obtain higher resolution. Higher density materials are more likely to require longer scans since the number of slices and exposure time is increased.

Can you scan multiple parts?

Yes. Depending on the size of the parts, the resolution required and analysis, up to 9 parts can be scanned at one time. This can greatly reduce the cost of the scans.

Can you scan a part in motion?

No. The scan rotates the part 360degrees on a rotary table. Approximately 1300 2d images are taken as the part rotates. If the part is moving other then in this particular rotation, the 2d images will not be reconstructed properly to create the 3d rendering.

How large are the CT dataset files?

The CT dataset given to the customer is typically about 2GB per scan, and is given on a DVD.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is billed at cost by Due to the size of data files created by CT scanning, a DVD will be shipped back to all customers. Upon request, the supplied part can also be returned. Shipping will be billed at cost via UPS to the desired end location.
