The Department of War Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) congratulates the U.S. Coast Guard on its AI Escape Room Challenge—an innovative example of moving generative AI learning from theory to hands-on practice.   By incorporating GenAI.mil into a virtual, mission-relevant problem-solving experience, Coast Guard participants practiced prompting, critical thinking, and human judgment while exploring how AI can help reduce administrative burden and return time to mission. The challenge engaged 142 participants across the Coast Guard, including US Coast Guard Academy cadets.   GenAI.mil helps make these kinds of learning experiences possible by giving the DoW workforce a secure environment to explore generative AI, build practical skills, and identify responsible mission applications.   This is what meaningful AI adoption looks like: equipping the workforce to understand the technology, test practical use cases, and apply it responsibly in support of the mission. GPT sharing is now available on GenAI.milon your government computer. Users can now create reusable, mission-focused GPTs and share them with authorized teammates—helping organizations move from one-off prompts to repeatable AI-enabled workflows. Starting today, teams can use shared GPTs to: • Standardize recurring drafting, summarization, research, planning, and training-support tasks • Capture effective prompts and instructions so colleagues do not have to start from scratch • Create tailored assistants for a specific function, project, or staff workflow • Preserve useful workflows and institutional knowledge as teams and personnel change • Give users a consistent starting point while retaining appropriate human review and responsibility GPT sharing is designed to reduce duplicated effort, improve consistency, and help the Department of War community scale responsible generative AI use for unclassified mission-support work. The Connecticut National Guard AI Symposium delivered a clear signal: the future of tactical decision-making is happening now. Keynoted by CPT Ryan Hetrick from the CDAO GenAI Task Force, the session focused on moving generative AI out of the lab and straight to the tactical edge. The objective is clear—augmenting warfighter expertise, mapping real workflows, and grounding AI applications in unit data and established SOPs to solve real problems. A standout case study highlighted the practical stakes: deploying an agentic AI application to support bomb threat response operations during the FIFA World Cup. This is concrete proof of how technology enhances mission execution in high-consequence environments.
